Most Ethical Congress Ever

Uh huh.

Rep. Charles Rangel held on to his powerful position of chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee despite calls from Republican leaders for him to resign, lawmakers said Monday.

Several Democratic lawmakers exiting a private meeting with Rangel told reporters he still held the position. For his part, Rangel, D-New York, said he did not want to talk about his future. In fact, he refused to talk about anything to reporters assembled outside the meeting, saying he wouldn’t give anything but his name, rank and serial number — then reciting them.

  1. It is interesting that whenever a Republican elected official gets into hot water, leadership will quickly remove them or even ask them to leave office (DeLay, Stevens, Craig, Foley, Lott).

But when the Dems find themselves in the same position, they’re perfectly fine with just circling the wagons and protecting their own.  Whatever.
