The blog will be down for a short period tomorrow as I try once again to upgrade the software. Let’s hope this attempt goes smoother than the last…
I hope the new software allows for more searches in the B & S archives - seems like if you don’t find what you want the first time, and try another search right away, you get this:
The following errors were encountered
You are only allowed to search every 30 seconds
Also, when you do locate an old post, there is this:
Commenting is not available in this weblog entry.
I suppose there is a good reason for that. Why do I raise that issue? Because of this post from May:

In that post, Owen was critiquing a co-columnist at the Daily News (Professor M Peterson) who had made this statement:
It is probably a generational disability, but I have never been able to understand, or accept, the possibility of a 20 year old Republican; such a thing violates the laws of nature and the revolutionary traditions of this country.
This is what made me think of that:

The college vote is up for grabs this year — to an extent that would have seemed unlikely two years ago, when a generation of young people seemed to swoon over Barack Obama.
Though many students are liberals on social issues, the economic reality of a weak job market has taken a toll on their loyalties: far fewer 18- to 29-year-olds now identify themselves as Democrats compared with 2008.
The professor is right, it must be a disability (but probably not generational, there are types of disability).
Let me try those links again:
Mind Like A Steel Trap…A Closed One
I can reduce the search limit a little. Maybe 15 seconds. It’s in place to deter the bots.
We have comments set to close automatically after 30 days. Otherwise, the spammers have a field day with the old posts.
Thanks - we certainly don’t want to make it any easier for the bots. Enough spam getting through already - seems like they do their stuff at night - first thing in the morning, a bunch of spam comments. I should probably follow the links and place an order with a fake credit card number & address.
I read at a few “Blogger” sites that whatever tools they use to fight spam sometimes causes good comments to get put in the trash too, so the blog administrators are having to go through all of them to recover the good ones.
Spammers… the bane of blogging.
Interesting and informative. Would like to know more on this subject.
