Mo More PGA Tour in Milwaukee

That’s a shame

The PGA Tour’s 42-year run in Milwaukee is over.

The board of directors of Milwaukee Golf Charities Inc. voted Wednesday to dissolve the organization, which had run the Greater Milwaukee Open - later the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee - since 1968.

The tournament had been searching for a title sponsor since U.S. Bank announced this year that it would not pick up the three-year option beginning in 2010.

“We explored several different avenues and several different companies and it was not the time and place to do anything,” said Dan Croak, the tournament director since 1998. “With no funds available, we couldn’t go any further.”

Croak said the tournament donated $520,000 to charity this year and “we walk away with no debt in place.”
