MJS Endorses Scott Walker

The MJS even managed to endorse Scott Walker.  Is it the Kiss of Death?

Get out and vote.

  1. From my perspective the Journal Sentinel is batting 1.000 with its endorsements of Scott Walker and Louis Butler.  Judge Gableman comes in for some well-deserved criticism in the editorial for running a television ad that the J-S brands as “despicable”:

“Gableman’s tactics in this campaign give us pause. Gableman has compiled a solid record as a judge, which is what makes his recent ad attacking Butler so difficult to understand. It was, in a word, despicable.

“The ad implies that because Butler “found a loophole,” a convicted child molester went on to molest another child. The ad prominently displays a photo of Butler and the convicted child molester, both African-American, side by side, and asks if Wisconsin families “can feel safe with Louis Butler on the Supreme Court?”

“The ad is misleading, a blatant attempt to play on fears and amounts to race-baiting.

“What it doesn’t tell you is that Butler, as a public defender, represented Reuben Lee Mitchell years ago during the appeal of his conviction. Or that after winning a new trial for Mitchell, the state Supreme Court overturned that decision and Mitchell served his sentence. After being released, Mitchell was convicted again of raping a child and sent back to prison.

“Earlier in the campaign, a Gableman supporter claimed in a fund-raising letter that Butler cast the deciding vote to overturn a decision involving a sexual predator, which resulted in the predator’s release. Just one problem: Richard A. Brown remains incarcerated.

“Gableman believes he can score points by harping on Butler’s former career as a public defender, as if a defense attorney is somehow of less value than a prosecutor. But in the world of the courts, there are two equally important sides: prosecutors and defense attorneys. Both overreach at times. It’s Gableman’s weakest argument.”

  2. Gee, Wally, nice to stay on topic.  Maybe you can enlighten us with your brillant analysis about Scott Walker’s endorsement.  But no, you blather on like a troll doll about Gableman.
As far as the MJS endorsement, do they still have readers?  If so, do they actually follow what the MJS says?  If so, those people pretty much aren’t too bright.  And that goes for any endorsement by the MJS or any other newspaper.

  3. Sykes had a great bit the other day on the MJS endorsements…..as he put it, it’s basically what Ricardo Pimentel thinks…..so why is that worth anything more than what you or I think.

That said, I’m guessing that Taylor in her meeting with the editorial board came across as such an incompetent space cadet, even Pimentel couldn’t bring himself to endorse her.

I mean you read that editorial and it basically says “We disagree with every single thing Scott Walker says or stands for…..but we’re not sure Lena Taylor would even know how to turn on the lights in her office. “

  4. I think Owen said it well during Skye’s show on Sunday. “I haven’t seen a more inept campaign in a long time.” referring to Lena Taylor.

I noticed Holt was still playing her water boy as well.

MJS couldn’t endorse Taylor with a straight face - that should say it all. She’ll keep her black votes, but noone else will vote for her. She is the ultimate hack.

  5. How in the world could the MJS endorse Taylor and still retain the one iota of credibility they have left?  The woman is clearly just not that bright and waaaaay under qualified for the position; it appears even most liberals are sitting that race out (except for the raging liberals I know up on the North Shore, who are all voting for Walker).

I look at it this way.  People like Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, etc., they’re “gimmes” for the MJS.  They would blanket endorse liberals if they could, but since they want to retain an aura of fairness, they have to endorse conservatives from time to time as well, so endorsing candidates they know are going to win or who are running against nonviable candidates like Talyor or Dr. Jeff Thomas are easy ways to retain that aura.

  6. Hey, Taylor was just interviewed on channel 12 and do you know why the MJS endorsed her opponent?  It’s because she’s… (drumroll, please)... a WOMAN!

    Um, yeah, Lena.  Sure.
