MJS Campaigns for Barrett

Well, the MJS has outdone itself in trying to smear Walker, but let’s take a closer look

Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker inaccurately described the state’s health care program for the poor this week - saying it was originally a temporary program when in fact it never was.

Walker, a Republican running for governor, in a debate Wednesday also said the program, called BadgerCare Plus, faces “all kinds of fraud and abuse,” but rampant fraud has not been identified.

and Walker’s excuse…

Walker said he improperly described BadgerCare Plus because candidates have to give short answers in debates. He said Thursday he opposed Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle’s slight loosening of time limits on Wisconsin Works, or W-2, the state’s welfare-to-work program. He said he believed allowing people to receive benefits longer had the effect of keeping people on BadgerCare Plus longer, and that was the point he was trying to make in the debate.

It’s a pretty lame excuse, but let’s get real… government welfare programs, including BadgerCare Plus, have a long history of fraud and abuse.  It’s not exactly a stretch.  The fact that “fraud has not been identified” means that nobody is looking.  Again… finding fraud in a government handout program is not hard if one is willing to look.

The MJS has long since past any sense of notion that they are unbiased observers.  It’s rather shameless.

If anything, this is closer to a true criticism:

Former U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann, Walker’s opponent in the Sept. 14 Republican primary, said he wanted to take $810 million meant for a high-speed rail line from Milwaukee to Madison and use the money for tax cuts. But that money has been earmarked by Congress for rail and state officials have repeatedly said if Wisconsin doesn’t take the money it will go to another state for its rail projects.

  1. I have an gov. insurance plan I appreciate; I wish it for all; however…

A close friend of mine in the retirement age (but not yet covered by social security) is seeking less expensive insurance.
S/he is looking at the cheaper month to month plan with a big initial deductible: $7,000.

So, the one private insurance plan s/he contacted hired an independent private investigation firm to perform a 10-year medical background check.  They “discovered” two positive medical test events in the past that never occurred; however, these “on record” events disqualified him/her from anything but high risk insurance plans.  This person is now blackballed.

I’ll agree the government plan is wasteful.  I saw it happen with three plus loved ones (Watch the wheelchair monthly maintenance fees, nail trimming, oxygen tank costs, etc.).  However, the private plans are for profit; they’ll avoid all potential losses, and disqualify as many potential losses as possible to maintain the bottom line.

“government handout program” - Would ending all subsidies to U.S. farmers (corn, corn syrup, sugar, corn products, cheaply fattened beef, etc) have been a better choice to assist U.S. citizen health than the newly enacted health care plan?

  2. When welfare programs such as BadgerCare were created, they were packaged and sold as “transitions” or “bridges” from one stage of a person’s life, to the next.  Which is what I think Walker meant when he said it was a temporary program.  That is, the program itself would exist permanently, but it was intended to be utilized by individuals on a temporary basis.

But now, BadgerCare has become a lifestyle for many, including “children” up to age 27.  I don’t know about fraud in the program, but I’m certain it exists; and there’s certainly abuse occuring.

  4. If you want to hear about fraud talk to anyone who works on an ambulance.  Have a headache…call 911.  You want a ride home from the bar and you live by the hospital…call 911.

Actually, if you look at the original article, http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/101501194.html
Walker makes this point. I don’t know what this guy was smoking before he wrote this other article.

However, if you look at badgercare’s website, I don’t think the “transition” thing is 100% correct.
    http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/badgercareplus/faq.htm
It appears that it is to help kids, families who are near the federal poverty level pay for kids insurance and pregnant women near the federal poverty level. While some people may be temporarily near the poverty level, some people are almost always close to it.

It’s a pretty lame excuse, but let’s get real… government welfare programs, including BadgerCare Plus, have a long history of fraud and abuse.

Maybe you could provide PROOF of fraud at badgercare? Since you CLAIM there has been a long history of it there.

  7. The title of the post Is: MJS Campaingns for Barrett, not: Lets debate BadgerCare. It is clear from articles and media coverage in MKE lately that the tactic of media (MJS included) is to aggressively pick apart Walker and his staff, but be passive about any thing Barrett says or does.
Where is all the coverage about Barrett’s mis-statements or staff??? Oh yeah, that’s right, he is a Saint who sacrifices his body to protect defenseless women. :zzdeadhorse:
