Harvey takes me to task for missing a story about state jobs. Sorry, folks.
On the bright side, I’m all over this:
[George] Washington started his whiskey business in 1797, after leaving politics. It was a thriving enterprise that yielded 11,000 gallons of whiskey and a profit of $7,500 ? or about $105,000 in today?s dollars ? in one year.
Boy, I’m thirsty.
Wow, Owen, you got to that one quick! It’s only been 200 years! Maybe you’ll cover the Milwaukee County labor issue in around 2208!
Ah, a good laugh, thanx Wendy.
Washington used to grow hemp too. I’ve been wondering what Owen thinks about medicinal marijauna for a while and this seems to be the best chance I’ll get to ask your [ anyones ] stance on that?
I’m all for legalizing it. Medicinal or not.
I suspect Owen is not. O?
Jed, would you consider it to be like alcohol where it is illegal to drive while under the influence and people who choose to use it need to be over, say, 18 or 21?
I really have no strong opinion either way, I’m just curious if it is something that would be regulated in the way that alcohol is, or would be treated as a drug, prescription or otherwise. I’d love to be there for the FDA testing. That would be an interesting day (week?)
I’d prefer to see marijuana legalized, but regulated like alcohol.
That might even be further then I would take it. I am all for general decriminalization. I’d have to give legalization some thought. The way it is now is just foolish though.
I’m just very frusterated because I have had shrinks and MD’s tell me it would be beneficial to me for my agoraphobia and even though my state [CO] has legalized medicinal use no one will write a scipt for it because the damn Feds are overstepping their authority and making doctors too scared to do it. As I understand it it’s none of the Feds bussiness.
If Rasta’s can smoke it wherever they want because of their religion I should be able to get a script for it if my Dcotor thinks it’s appropriet. We all should have the right to choose under religious freedoms. In the Summerian stories the Bible [Old Testament] are based on it says the gods brought us hemp.
The Bible says it is a sin to not use things from seeds. Granted that might not mean smoking it but even if we just used it for other things it would save a vast number of trees. It’s a very beneficial plant that has got a bad rap. Booze is far worse in almost every way.
Let me get this straight: you believe that the government should be able to force Catholic hospitals to provide services they believe are Biblically wrong, that the government should remove “under God” from the Pledge, but your justification for legalizing marijuana comes from THE BIBLE?
I don’t care if pot is legal or not, but I just found your reasoning interesting.
Carry on.
Jay,
What distinction do you make between “decriminalization” and “legalization”?
Wendy,
No, it’s by no meens my justification it just seems to be an arguement others here [from what they have said ] would have to conceed too. I was just pointing out my frustration that religious people can smoke it but I can’t even get a doctors note for something legal that they say is beneficial. If others can take refuge from law by religious beliefs so can I. I have no faith in the Bible but I do have faith in the original versions of the stories in the Bible and they say the “Gods” gave us hemp. As you may recall I did backtrack from forceing Catholics to go against their feelings. I just wanted them all to have the right to follow their convictions which hospitalwide “blanket” polocies can’t allow.
Jed,
I thought you might ask. I often feel too undereducated to really be engaging with you guys here but I like to try. I am under the immpression that decriminalization would allow for controls like you gotta be 18 to have it, can’t drive on it etc. But most importantly you can’t go to jail if you have it.
I would fear complete legalization might allow it to be sold in every store across the country and I don’t know if that would be good. Hell, I guess it don’t matter. Kids are already in higher jepordy as they are often used to move weed. If weed were everywhere I guess that would not happen. Kids have far easier access to it now then I do. Yes, I changed my mind. I would legalize it and I think it would make no difference on how many kids get exposed to it.
I would far prefer my kids try smoking pot then drinking. It’s just so much safer in nearly every way. As well as far less physically damaging then alcohol. I have been an alcoholic and a stoner. I now don’t drink [often] because I know it would kill me whereas I do smoke because it helps me.
Alcohol is physically addictive, weed is not. How are the current laws justifiesd I wonder?
