Mequon to consider extending levy freeze

John Wirth continues to fight for the taxpayers

The Mequon Common Council’s Public Welfare Committee on Tuesday will consider a proposed extension of the city’s property tax levy freeze.

The levy is the amount of money collected each year by the city from property taxpayers.

Ald. John Wirth’s proposal would extend the freeze, enacted four years ago, for the next three fiscal years. It would need to be approved by the full council.

The committee meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

  1. Thanks for the nod Owen.  Tonight, the committee expressed approval of the resolution, but referred it to our Finance/Personnel Committee.  Of course, I do not know with certainty how it will vote, but two of its three voting members supported the resolution four years ago (with the third not being on the Council).  Moreover, regardless of the F/P recommendation, the resolution will go the Council, which I believe will pass the resolution.  We will hold the line on taxes and maintain or improve public services.
