Mayor of New Berlin Apologizes For Insulting Constituents

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid some public officials are when it comes to email.

In the May 25 e-mail, Chiovatero stated: “I am a prisoner in my own home. I have spent several hours a day last week listening and replying to concerned citizens. I spent all weekend doing the same. I went to Pick N Save to pick up a prescription and I was stopped by several people and it took an hour and a half to leave the store. I was asked NOT to attend two functions this weekend for fear it would distract and cause havoc by my presence. Our City is filled with prejudice (sic) and bigoted people who with very few facts are making this project into something evil and degrading.”

He also stated, “New Berlin is not ready, nor may never be, for a project like this.”

As for the apology, Chiovatero said he never meant to categorize all New Berlin citizens in the way he did in the e-mail. He said he wrote the e-mail quickly and meant to say that “a few citizens were prejudiced.”

“I didn’t mean to categorize New Berlin citizens in a bad light,” he said.

Uh huh.

  1. Way stupid.  The even sadder thing is, he may be right.

  2. If its true, what’s the matter? I’m sure there are bigots in New Berlin. Move on, nothing to see here.

  4. Good lord. Like there are no bigots in Shorewood, or Whitefish bay, or Bayview, or Mequon, or Sheboygan, or New York, or Los Angeles, or Olympia, or Sacramento, or Zimbabwe, or Timbuktu, or Antarctica, or Hawaii, or Chicago, or the White House…. Luckily, human beings are given (by their creator) free will, and they are allowed to exercise it.

The comments of the Mayor were moronic at best. Scott, you would disapprove of means-tested housing going in next door to your kids swingset as well as anyone in New Berlin. It has nothing to do with skin color, it has everything to do with the way renters (especially in low rent areas) treat the places and areas in which they live. As a landlord of low income housing, I see it every day…. If I lived in a $275,000.00 house in New Berlin, I’d oppose this thing going in anywhere near me too.

  5. To a liberal, it’s always about race… even when it isn’t. The fact that people moved away from a decaying city like Milwaukee in order to have some peace and quiet… and have a home that will hold some value… that is not racist. the fact that they don’t want some monstrous piece of low income transient housing plopped on their door step doesn’t make them racist either.

I’m quite sure that a guy as liberal as Scott doesn’t just talk the talk though. He probably lives in the City of Milwaukee… in Riverwest, or maybe Metcalf Park… or Sherman Park for that matter…. someplace diverse with lots of nearby low income properties. Isn’t that right Scott? You tell em… you live in that type of neighborhood (not is some sprawling white racist suburb), and they should too. Right?

As for the Mayor of New Berlin… It would seem that a guy who has such a low opinion of his constituents, and such revulsion to entertaining their input… that sort of guy belongs in Congress, not as a mayor. Clearly, he should resign his office and move on to a job he respects a bit more.

  6. DJMGenius:
Take a look at a map. The area described is largely commercial. How close is too close?

Umm, right scott, and you are an expert on New Berlin?  I guess just because they live in a suburb, they must be biggoted?
Just another stupid comment from scott.

  8. I just wish they would try to release a sexual predator in Shorewood.

Then we can see who the real biggots are.

I would rather live next to subsidized housing than to have another north shore liberal move into our suburbs.

Keep your crappy liberalism inside your borders.

Boy, what a choice.  Liberals or subsidized housing.  Both have their bad points and few good points.
But aren’t people who live in subsidized housing liberals?  After all, they accept welfare, which is liberal.
Now, if it was low income, non-section8, then I would take the low income over liberals any day.  Liberals are just so stinky and brain dead.

Racism, classism, elitism, all rolled into one.  Trifecta!

  11. Some notes on Shorewood (since it keeps being used as an example)...

    1. It’s one of the, if not the, most densely populated municipalities in the state with a relatively large number of its residents being renters.

    2. Keep in mind what Shorewood’s western border is.  Folks in New Berlin would most likely happily take the subsidized housing over Shorewood’s neighbor.

    3. I’m fairly certain there’s already some low-income housing in Shorewood.

    4. Shorewood doesn’t need to have a sexual predator released within its borders because there’s at least one I can think of that already lives/d there when caught.

Not disagreeing with anything anyone has said related to the New Berlin fiasco, just wanted to clarify some things about Shorewood…because, you know, while I live there, I don’t want it to become a dumping ground for liberal policies any more than it already is!

  12. Wow - imagine that…  This project is backed by SOPHIA, the “social justice” interfaith group associated with Gamailiel Foundation.  According to their Waukesha County website, they were working with Lena Taylor (say, she represents Milwaukee, not New Berlin, right?).  It also lists every statist cause and Democrat talking point out there.

The Gamailiel Foundation has a committed Marxist vision:

    1. Collective transformation of our society is necessary to bring about justice locally, nationally, and globally.

    2. The sacred community is valued over individualism.

    3. There should be shared, sustained abundance for all.

New Berlin residents don’t want it?  Good for them.

  13. The people who what to build and own the apartments did they offer the mayor a cup of coffee or more for his help ?
If they do not build it, does the mayor still get the coffee ?
