The Wisconsin Technical College System Board voted 12-0 today to reject a request from the Germantown School District to secede from the Milwaukee Area Technical College District.
The secession would have resulted in a tax reduction for Germantown School District property taxpayers because Germantown would have affiliated with the lower-taxing Moraine Park Technical College District.
Screw the customers. Just take their money. Such is the attitude of MATC.
This decision was reported a week ago, long before it even happened:
MATC Ya Later c/o This Just In
Fear my prescience. Oh, and ignore that loud bah-OOOH-gah.
That’s just my own horn…

Get a guy like Tom Kempinski on the MATC board. Fight for the MATC board to be an elected position. That must be the next battle.
At first glance, it looks like it is the MATC Board that made this vote, but like the article says, it was the Wisconsin Technical College System Board that voted against it. I assume this it another level of taxation without representation, and I guess it shouldn’t have been too surprising that they would have sided with MATC - better to stick it to Germantown tax payers, than expect Milwaukee to fund a premium program themselves.
Maybe the citizens of this state need to initiate some kind of direct referendum ballot on this, like what was done in Milwaukee for mandated sick leave.
Once again they make it a matter of money. lol.
What happens if Germantown just stops paying the taxes to MATC? Revolt!
Not surprising but discouraging it didn’t even get one vote. Alberta Darling has introduced legislature in the past to have these boards elected - but it has gone nowehere.
Not that it would matter much for Germantown - since the bulk of the people live in Milwaukee would just keep voting in the tax and spenders.
Just another example of ‘regional cooperation’ Milwaukee tells you how much to pay and better be “cooperating.”
