Nice.
AFSCME Council 24 exec director Marty Beil, who is in the Capitol today to follow the vote on public employee contracts, had a very concise statement about his feelings on the outcome.
“Decker’s a whore,” he said.
Typical union goonery by the chief union goon.
Bi-partisan opposition in both the Assembly and Senate. Who says the parties can’t work together on the most pressing issues of the day?
How long has this contract been on the table?
I wonder if Dems knew how damaging giving so much power to the unions could be so they never passed the contract. They ‘tried’ this one last gasp and failed.
Does this remind anyone else of the ‘taxpayers bill of rights’ that Republicans couldn’t quite pass a decade+ ago?
I believe an upper level Republican on the way out admitted that they did not pass it because they’ did not want to lose the issue’. If it passed, apparently it would have been out of the voters minds, like only undone things matter, not record. Sadly, that is probably true, though it is the opposite of my belief. You want to be re-elected? What have you done, not what have you failed to do.
Now Dems will not be responsible for cuts they know are necessary, Republicans will be. They expect union members to forget that Dems did nothing now and remember that Republicans damaged them in 2011. And so it will likely be.
If Decker is a whore, then Beil is a pimp.
Rixter,
Please stop subscribing to comments or put in a valid e-mail address. Every comment on every thread you touch is bouncing to my inbox.
I apologize Jed. I am not particularly internet savvy. The e-mail address in the ‘e-mail’ slot above is valid.
I assume ‘stop subscribing’ pretty much means stop coming to this blog so with regret, Rixter/Tuerqas is signing off unless you can give me some sort of direction to fix whatever the problem is. I’ll look back at this thread a couple of times, but after that I will not be back to B&S.
Have a Merry Christmas all and thank you,
Rick
Hey Rix - don’t be so thin-skinned. Jed is just trying to get you to either a) put a correct email address in the Email box, or b) uncheck the “Notify me of follow-up comments?” box.
If you put a correct email address in the box below your name, you’ll understand Jed’s concern - everytime someone leaves another comment you (or Jed) will get another email.
My guess is that most people leave the notify box unchecked so their inbox doesn’t fill up.
And a Merry Christmas to you too!
How much does the Union pay Marty Beil in salary and benefits ( travel expense, health benefits, retirement plan etc ) ? Is it $ 400,000 plus per year ? more than the Governor of WI ?
Rixter, When you comment, there is a checkbox right under where you type your text. If it’s checked (which it is by default, I think), you get an email whenever you someone posts a comment under a post that you have commented under. If the address used is not valid, all the emails bounce to Jed.
So when you comment (and I hope you do), just uncheck that box before typing in the word verification word and hitting “submit.” Easy peasy.
While this situation is epically hilarious, I think that politically we can all understand Marty’s frustration. Remember when concealed carry failed on override a few years ago by one vote because Gary Sherman flipped? Now imagine the same outcome, but imagine that it wasn’t Sherman that flipped but then-Assembly Speaker John Gard, someone who’d been with you in the trenches for years on the issue. I’m guessing a lot of conservatives would’ve had equally nice things to say if that were the case. I get Decker’s rationale, but I don’t buy it for a second, at least coming from him.
What I’d love to ask Marty is who he thinks the pimp is if Decker’s the whore. It’s obviously not the unions. Walker would be crazy to give Decker an appointment, lest this vote look like the biggest political buyoff ever. Nobody smart on either side of the aisle is gonna give Decker a job. At this point, nobody trusts him.
Like Mike Ellis said, no matter how much Decker might hate Jim Doyle, it’s still really surprising that he would use union employees as a weapon against the departing governor. Yeah, Doyle and the unions should’ve finished these agreements months ago, but nobody’s going to remember that and blame Doyle as a result of Decker’s vote. They’re going to remember Decker losing his mind, turning his back on his biggest supporters, and becoming the political equivalent of a suicide bomber.

I understand your rationale, but I diaagree. At the root of the issue is the lack of professional conduct by Mr. Beil. If union members desire respect they must conduct themselves in a civil manner and demand the same from their leadership.
I was in the senate chambers when Risser slammed the gavel down closing senate session before a vote on concealed carry. I and others did not go out and get vulgar about it.
Plain fact is, if we are to get this state budget under control, Walker and the new ligislature are going to have to make a lot of decisions that will make people unhappy! Are they going to conduct themselves as did Mr. Beil? I would hope not.
