Lessons from the road

My column for the Daily News is online.  It’s called, “Lessons from the road.”  I suppose you can guess where I’ve been for the past few days.

Politics + Politics - Wisconsin

  1. Sounds like you both had a wonderful time, and a much needed rest. People from other states always ask how come Wisconsinites never go anywhere or venture out of state, perhaps its because we have so much going for us in are own backyard.
When its ten below this winter run this column again so we can daydream about summer.

  3. Glad you had a great trip, and did not feel impacted by politics.

There are a lot of people in LA who did not have such good trips yesterday due to politics:

LA Fuming Over Obama Traffic, Demands Investigation

Obama was only in L.A. for a few hours, but his presence caused numerous streets to be blocked off.

Residents reported that commutes and errands that typically took minutes turned into hours-long ordeals. One particular complaint was that streets remained blocked for hours—even when Obama was inside TV producer John Wells’ Hancock Park home at a fund-raiser.

    Ouch!:

Another man trying to walk west on 6th Street to his office shouted at the officers blocking his way and told them he wished he had voted for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Obama’s opponent in the 2008 presidential race.

Um. did you realize that the secret service has complete control of this.  It wouldn’t matter who was President.

  5. Pat:

You do realize, of course, that Areblican President would not hve been in LA yesterday to attend a DCCC fundraiser.  Of course, Obama is going to “focus on getting Democrats re-elected for the next several months”—-unless he was going to be “focused like a laser on jobs”....wait, he has a vacation coming up in Martha’s Vineyard, or was that, he just came from a vacation in Florida?

    OOOWWWWW my head hurts.

Maybe it would, if this is true:

President Obama Made My Job Easier

And a few years ago, when I was trying to bring President Bush to Burbank, I spoke with the Political office (which works in tandem with the Advance team on political trips, such as tonight), and here is what I was told:

“We want to bring the President to town with major publicity at the event and no problems for people not going to the event.  Votes and political capitol are lost if that happens,”
