Kramer Carries

I would do the same thing.

Bill Kramer of Waukesha is speaker pro tem of the Assembly. He controls debate and can order spectators out of the chamber.

He says he obtained a permit to carry a concealed weapon in November and has at times carried a Glock 26 on the Assembly floor.

He says he feels he needs the weapon given the toxic atmosphere at the state Capitol. Bands of protesters still angry over Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s contentious collective bargaining law have spent the past year harassing GOP legislators.

Although… I’m not a huge fan of Glocks.

  1. I need some help from you gun guys on the Aldi robbery.

The way Jay Webber was describing it, there were two guys in the store, each with a shotgun.  One had a shotgun pointed at the head of the clerk.

The CC citizen then shoots the guy holding the gun to the head of the clerk,  in the leg?  Then the two robbers run off.

Am I off on the fact pattern?  Because if accurate, I’d hate to have been that clerk.  Who tries to take out two armed guys, including one with a gun pointed at a civilian, by a shot to a leg?

Again, maybe the fact pattern I heard on WISN was incorrect.

  2. I’m not sure if that’s accurate. I can only hope that the leg was not the intended target. In a crisis situation the accuracy of shooting drops dramatically. And it sounds like after the first shot, the bad guys took off running.

I remember in my CC training class, he instructed us to aim for center of mass and keep pulling the trigger until the threat was stopped or the gun was empty. The presumption was that you’d miss most of the time. It takes a fair amount of training and a certain state of mind to pull off the “double-tap and down.”

  3. Owen is on point here.  While we all have certain heroic images in our heads, the metric buttload of adrenaline dumped into our physical systems when these moments suddenly become real completely overrides rational intentions.  Only those actions practiced to the point that they are sub-conscious muscle memory will survive the adrenaline dump, A/K/A exactly what they train in boot.  Also, don’t forget the studies of actual WWII boot-trained soldiers and the numbers of whom admitted post-war that they’d never fired their weapon.

  4. Well now I see in the MJS story that one of the guys was shot in the eye, so he was going for the head.

It just seemed funny with the story Jay Weber and Ken Herrera were relaying this morning of the fact pattern where they said the guy was shot in the leg and it took place while one of the robbers had the gun pointed at the clerks head.

I guess my point is, if the citizen is going to stop these things, I’m not sure I want them shooting just yet, if I’m having the gun held to my head.  But maybe those facts were wrong as well.

  7. They Aldi CCW good guy shot 2 times, one hit the perps leg nd the other grazed the perps cheek.  Not bad results considering the CCW guy has his license only 2 weeks.  The CCW guy had taken a self defense course which shows most responsible CCW applicants want to get training, whether or not it’s a formal requirement.

Our liberal DA will not file any charges against the CCW guy (sign issue) and ruled it a proper self defense situation.  Good result for the 1st WI CCW shooting!

  8. I was in the Capitol on Thursday with some friends.  We carried also.  Good for Bill Kramer, he made a wise and prudent decision.

  9. Really B.Thad? This one guy took a training course, and that shows that “most responsible CCW applicants want to get training”? Not sure about that…

And GMan, watch how fast this guy gets thrown in jail because he killed a man after receiving a death threat or being a victim of simple assault.

  11. VA,

Further, if I were receiving death threats, you can bet your ass I’d be carrying a weapon on me at all times.  You leftist thugs might actually follow through, which *would* be a valid situation for shooting.

  12. Good job changing the subject, GMan. It makes it easier for you to totally ignore both what I said and the reality of self-defense law.

Also, why do you always presume to know so much about me? You think I’m a leftist thug…what would indicate that? On the other hand, I know you’re a complete dick who is looking for a chance to kill someone who disagrees with you politically.

  13. I’m glad I don’t need to take a concealed carry course. I took a hunters safety course back in 1967 and am in the process of getting my concealed carry permit.  I’ll be able to privately pack heat shortly.
