Neat.
The U.S. Senate has passed a spending bill totaling more than one trillion dollars and a lot of that money is flowing directly into western Wisconsin.
The bill cleared the senate by a vote of 57 to 35 Sunday. The legislation includes about $650 billion in mandatory payments for federal benefit programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.
U.S. Senator Herb Kohl included $750,000 for Health Care in Wisconsin. The funding includes $450,000 for I.T. improvements at the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic and Hospital and $300,000 for Viterbo University to build an up-to-date nursing facility.
Owen, is there really any money flowing into Wisconsin? I mean a $300,000 new nursing facility for Viterbo is fine, but why does it seem like you’ll find some district in Houston is getting $3 million for their pet project.
And now our one source of pork, the Oshkosh truck contract is hammered down and has to go through review again.
Our congressional delegation really sucks at getting money into this State.
Because I am consistent on the issue of pork, I am willing to say that this is not a good thing. I would be interested to hear about what this IT upgrade involves, I’d be willing to bet that it is an improvement from 2 year old computers to a system that will be compatible with the future mandated healthcare database.
There should never ever be any pork. Every bit of spending that happens in this nation should be voted on independently, and if that is impossible because of the volume, then spending bills should be divided by state and individually scrutinized.
I am disgusted that Viterbo solicited federal tax money for anything. I am even more upset that they got some. I’ll be returning their next begging envelope with a note saying “Fuck you - why don’t you just have government steal it from me first?”
Maybe the Franciscans aren’t any better than the Jesuits. At least I still have hope with the Dominicans.
This can’t be right. Kohl actually did something?
Wow. And he’s been in there how long?
