Kimchi

Why on earth would a WalMart in West Bend, Wisconsin, have jars and jars of kimchi in the produce department?

They don’t have couscous, but they have kimchi?

  1. In another place and time I lived with a bunch of guys that frequently threw parties that ran well into the night. One of them really enjoyed bringing out the kimchi in the wee hours when people had a pretty good buzz going. It always made for interesting scenes, but I never tried any.

This same guy also kept pickled turkey gizzards in the house. And yes, he would occasionally stick a fork in the jar and pop one in his mouth at about the same stage of the evening as the kimchi sessions.

Ever since then I have kept an eye out for people from Wauwatosa.

  2. A large Hmong population may have something to do with that.

  3. Because it sells.
Wal Mart’s inventory system is second to none.  That’s how they make so much money. If it doesn’t move, it’s gone.
