My column for the West Bend Daily News is online. I take a look at the Breske appointment in a piece called, ”Job Well Done?”
well you are wrong in the 1st sentance.
‘Uncle Rodney” was still the railroad comish until today when Breske was approved!!

now i read the whole article??
Owen are you having a bad week??
“almost certain” the GOP takes Breske’s seat??
Have you met tom tiffany??
Posted by on May 28, 2008 at 1903 hrsThe Breske Senate seat is a fifty fifty seat Owen, despite all of Jefferson’s spinning. There are 3 candidates that could fight off the money Holeprin is going to spend, and they are the 3 reps.
I mean, Tiffany wasn’t a good candidate the first time, and Handrick is knee deep as a Madison Lobbyist.
So unless Friske, Meyer or to a lesser extent, mursau step up it’ll be tough sledding.
Posted by on May 28, 2008 at 1913 hrsI’ll ditto much of the above.
- Breske is slated to replace Kreunen on June 4th, I believe.
- By delaying the appointment, Doyle effectively caught the Republicans with their pants around their knees. I’ve heard that none of the three Assembly Republicans who serve in that district are interested in running. I’ve also heard that Handrick is a no - he’d have had all kinds of caucus issues in that race anyway. Tom Tiffany’s going nowhere fast. So odds are, Doyle’s adding a personal crony to the Senate in January, which helps him more than Breske ever helped Decker. Smart move by Doyle.
- If anything, CERS’ delusional thinking could hurt other vulnerables. The Senate GOP isn’t swimming in money, nor will they be anytime soon. If they’re dumb enough to funnel money to Tiffany, that’s money they’re NOT spending on/steering to Darling, Kapanke, or the Roessler open seat. Breske leaving was their best shot at winning that seat, and sadly for them, they are in zero position to capitalize right now. If CERS has a guy in Rhinelander who wants to know how to, say, spend $1,500 on GOP Senate races, I’d tell him to spend exactly zero on Tom Tiffany. I’d move that money out of the district before I’d spend it there.
Posted by Recess Supervisor on May 28, 2008 at 2018 hrsYup Owen you swung and missed a few times on this one!!
But considering the paper, no one will write letters to the editor i’m sure!!
Posted by on May 29, 2008 at 1007 hrsGood Question on the Book willy.
Funny hoe all i hear are crickets from the gop blogosphere.
The white house folks keep ripping on McClellan, but i’ve yet to
hear any of them say it’s not true??
Wait til Obama’s cabinet folks write books.
owen will be all over it!!
Posted by on May 29, 2008 at 1011 hrsThe fact that someone disagrees with me does not make the column a miss. It just means that someone disagrees with me. That’s fine. It’s an opinion column.
Time will tell. Talk to you in November.
Posted by Owen on May 29, 2008 at 1012 hrsAlso, you forgot to mention the Democratic win in the 8th district. So even with a Breske district loss you have the same composition in the Senate.
Posted by on May 29, 2008 at 1219 hrsFunny… I don’t remember an election happening in the 8th yet… yet, you use the past tense. Is there a rift in the space time continuum? Are you a seer with extraordinary powers to divine the future by reading the entrails of mice?
Maybe you should start a blog.
Posted by Owen on May 29, 2008 at 1231 hrsOwn up Owen. Kreunen retained the position until recently. He may not have been effective recently since his drunken debacle but he was still there. The states politics are becoming less and less predictable but unless something drastic happens I see Wisconsin turning from purple to true blue.
