My column for the West Bend Daily News is online. It’s called, “It’s for the children.” It’s about spring in Wisconsin. Here’s a part:
It’s going to get up to 70 degrees this week and the smell of spring is in the air. I love to drive around town this time of year and see all of the colors sprouting in yards. The blues, yellows, reds, greens, and other colors are like a fresh coat of paint on West Bend after the months of dreary snow.
Oh, and I also mention the school board election next week.
The average West Bend family has some choices for next year about what to do with their non-existent extra income. More money for the School District employ….er Kids. Or spend that money to cover their higher health insurance premiums?
Decisions. Decisions.
Anyone can promise to improve quality while charging less, but unless they can show how they will make significant changes in the system to allow that to happen, the promise is an empty promise.
FL: Maybe check out Weigand’s blog. He gets into that there. He’ll give his suggestions tonight at the forum. Coming?
Note the repeat performance associated with Corazzi’s name…FAIL.
The only time I ever hear the phrase “Its for the kids,” or its variant in the title of this post, is when the right is sarcastically berating public school educators. Try a different trope. That one is getting tired and predictable.
Mike,
I don’t use, ‘it’s for the kids’.... I prefer to refer to the kids as the teachers’ human shields…

Kind of like “no blood for oil” eh?

At the forum last night Corazzi mentioned he came from Europe before re- locating to West Bend.
Enough said, it all makes sense now.
The incumbents are campaigning as a de facto ticket as are the challengers.
This is a disingenuous statement as it implies the incumbents came out of the gate as a ticket. Owen knows that’s not true. It was Weigand and Marquardt that approached this election joined at the hip and the incumbents reacted.
Personally I don’t care at all for candidates that don’t stand up on their own.
I won’t put up any signs because I think they’re stupid, but I will be voting a split ticket. Given the close vote in the primary, I’d further contend that this would most closely reflect the will of the people.
Once again, too many folks (on both sides) like to see everything in black and white. That way they don’t really have to think much.
My advice, look at the individuals and make your choice.
How is it disingenuous? Is it not accurate? I used the present tense of the verb. I did not intend to imply anything about how any of them entered the campaign. I would suggest that any implication you derived from that statement is not correct.
lynn corazzi lost an election so he’s unqualified- good thing for him Owen didn’t write in Lincoln"s day or no Honest Abe for us (no job to report)
kathy van erhden won a bunch of elections but she’s horrible because nothing good happened in those 9 years (no job to report)
Dave Wiegand loves puppies, has a job and hasn"t has anything to do with the district -save for sending a child this year to the HS (but that’s another good thing)
Randy Marquardt is also employed ,wants clearer communication, brotherhood and the 3r’s
(and officially supports the teaching of creationism in the schools WB News 3/31/2010)
i could have written your article for you the day the “Conservative Duo” sent in their apps
Wiegand could win- I like him personally.
Marquardt’s answers could come from any candidate running in any school board race in America with zero insight into how the system actually works. And if you’re for creationism in the schools-you are a litigation time bomb.
Endorse One- i get it, endorse both and your betray your own standards of minimal competency
A columnist with considerable insight endorsing a candidate with none
officially supports the teaching of creationism
Yes indeed. Owen talks about the “severe differences in philosophy”, yet fails to mention this. Odd. It does seem like a big difference. I wonder what kind of creationism? Buddhist? Hindu?
