Iranian citizens are being crushed as they try to stand up for free elections while the world stands by and issues stern press releases.
Iranian authorities have deployed thousands of security officers on the streets of Tehran, after a week of mass protests over a disputed election.
Witnesses said there were no rallies in the capital on Sunday, a day after 10 people were reported killed in clashes between police and protesters.
A number of alleged protest leaders are reported to have been arrested.
The authorities have also continued a crackdown on foreign media - expelling the BBC’s Tehran correspondent.
The corporation confirmed Jon Leyne had been asked to leave the country, but said the BBC office in Tehran would remain open.
Campaign group Reporters Without Borders says 23 local journalists and bloggers have been arrested over the past week.
I hate to be a pain in the butt to point this out, but, what if this happened in the U.S.? For instance, if McCain stole the election from Obama and there were protests, what would the police do? What would the Army do? Would they allow the overthrow of the U.S. government? Of course not and that is what is going on in Iran. The mad mullahs are fighting to stay in power.
Iran has shown it self that it doesn’t care what the world thinks and they will do whatever they can to stay in power. After all, this is how they came to power.
No matter what the U.N. or Obama does, it is not going to change what will happen in Iran.
Owen, if you were president of the US, what would you do?

________
Obama can’t do much. His weak condemnations have already led to the regime saying the US and Britain are meddling in their election. If he says nothing, he looks weak on foreign affairs. Any US President would be in the same situation.
The opposition groups have asked Obama for moral support, nothing more.
I believe Prez. Barry O can’t and won’t say anything of consequence because he’s a Muslim and doesn’t want to do anything to rock the boat of his Muslim brothers.
Just another point here, the Jews actually living in Israel now believe Prez. Barry O is no friend of theirs. How quickly the blinders are coming off.
“Obama can’t do much.”
Pretty sums up Barry in a nutshell.
No one is bothering to mention the broadcasts on Iranian State TV providing false translations of Obama’s comments to make it look like he/the US is the force behind the protests? Or that the regime claimed nothing had changed, that Obama was just like Bush?
Not significant I take it?
And our response in Nov-Dec 2000 when some wacko Mideast country spouted off about Bush stealing the election? Might that have gotten under your skin?
The protesters may get a break on July 4th when some of the regime members may head over to the local US Embassies for a BBQ.
Don’t know if this is true but I heard the army was refusing to fire on the crowds. There are protests in about 5-6 cities now.
Anyone think that this is “spill over” from our actions in Iraq? That the common people in Iran saw Iraq and realized they could have freedom from tyranny as well?
Nah, still too much BDS, I’m sure.
Whew…now I can rest easy. Obama held a press conference and took all of 90 seconds to comment on the uprest in Iran. Then changed the subject. Oh, he’s a strong leader all right (insert laugh here).
Maybe he will go on another date night or out for ice cream….yea that will work! Goodie!
