Remember when I said that the UN resolution calling to rid the world of nuclear weapons was worthless? Well, yeah...
The government of Iran has told the International Atomic Energy Agency that it is building a second uranium enrichment plant for making fuel, the nuclear watchdog agency said Friday.
President Obama will call attention to the existence of the underground facility in an early-morning statement to reporters here before the opening of the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh, and will say that Western intelligence agencies have been tracking the facility for years.
Obama’s statement, which will be made jointly with the leaders of France and Great Britain, was added to his schedule late Thursday night. It comes a day after Obama chaired a United Nations Security Council session on halting the spread of nuclear weapons throughout the world.
I work in the domestic nuke energy industry. We are obviously subject to some pretty tight regulations when it comes to working with companies outside of the US. We were recently in discussions with an EU organization that had a Swiss subsidiary.
The IAEA had asked this Swiss group to go into Iran and help them with their light water reactor (commercial) design because there were all sorts of safety concerns. Because of the Swiss sub’s work in Iran, we were unable to use the parent company.
Several weeks ago, they came back to us and stated that their Swiss group had pulled out of Iran at the request of the Swiss government. Seems Iran was so happy with the work they did on the light water stuff, the Iranians wanted help on their heavy water designs too. OOPS!
Even the Swiss know what the Iranians are up to - and it is not good.
We don’t need nukes…we have Obama. Now the entire world will love us. [sarcasm]
LET’S BOMB ‘EM!!!!! that’ll show ‘em.
