I hate to admit it, but HP sucks.
I have always been a fan of HP. I love their servers. Their PCs are OK. Their printers print great. But the printer software makes me want to take my laptop and shove it up some HP developer’s… pie hole.
We have an HP wireless printer. When we first got it, the software was oppressive. It loaded half a dozen services, conflicted with other programs, and bogged down our systems. I had to unintstall most of the crap just to get my PC back to normal. Then, all was good…
This last week, I had to replace our wireless router. No big deal. Then, obviously, I needed to reconfigure the wireless printer to work on the new SSID. Again, no big deal, or at least it shouldn’t have been. I hooked up the USB cable and went to town. An HOUR LATER, the piece of garbage still didn’t work, the HP software was taking 10 minutes just to spin up, and I was running out of battery.
Again, I love how HP printers print, but the software they insist on using is complete crap. This will be our last HP printer.
Their servers are okay, and I do agree that their printers are great. But I would rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick than buy an HP workstation or laptop.
Get a Mac already.
If HP is going to make Owen this crabby, even hours after the event, then I’m ready to ditch the dang thing right now.
Jeez.
I’ve had the same experience. After throwing up my hands after one too many hour long installs of an HP printer, I went out on a limb and bought a Brother for my office. Works great, prints fast and clear, and took 5 minutes to install. I was amazed.
Heh.
The s/w is likely based on the old HP operating system s/w from the 1970’s…
When I purchased an ‘all-in-one’ (fax/copy/print/image) Canon (personal) printer I got a rather pleasant surprise: the control panel software is identical to the stuff found on the super-duper heavy-duty Canon office machines.
Worth the $150.00 or so I spent.
BTW, I have not had good experience with HP laptops or desktops, either.
Another hardware vendor that can’t write write software… now where have I seen that before?
HP’s high end stuff is fine. The low end stuff sucks wind. Clayton Cramer WORKS THERE and even he can’t get competent service from them when there’s a problem with their hardware. My personal experiences with trying to get service for PCs from HP has also been so bad that I’ll never buy another of their PCs or laptops.
As to printers, first class hardware, very questionable software even when directly connected to the PC. My HP printers work better under Linux than XP, which is a pretty damning statement when you consider the difference in documentation and support the two systems get.
