Holder Begs Europeans to Take Gitmo Detainees

And so here we are… begging our allies to take the Gitmo prisoners.

Attorney General Eric Holder, speaking in Berlin, Germany, on Wednesday night, appealed to European nations to accept some of the detainees held by the United States at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to help the Obama administration close down the prison facility.

“I know that Europe did not open Guantanamo, and that in fact, a great many on this continent opposed it,” Holder said in his address at the American Academy of Berlin. “To close Guantanamo, we must all make sacrifices and we must all be willing to make unpopular choices.”

“The United States is ready to do its part, and we hope that Europe will join us—not out of a sense of responsibility, but from a commitment to work with one of its oldest allies to confront one of the world’s most pressing challenges,” the attorney general said.

Um, it’s not one of the world’s most pressing challenges.  They are locked away and secure.  The only thing pressing is internal American leftist pressure to release them when nobody wants them.  Know why nobody want them?  That’s right… they’re terrorists.

I’m sure the Europeans got a good chuckle out of this.

  1. Oh, I think the hypocrisy here is largely worn by Europe.  Europeans decry the U.S. military-industrial complex, all the while knowing that it’s precisely the very thing that allows them to devote hardly any of their GDP to defense spending and instead frees up money for government health care and pensions and subsidized wine tasting and other things that Europeans like.

So we go around and capture the terrorists, which they like and benefit from but are loathe to admit publicly, yet they want no part in the maintenance or upkeep costs that go along with that.

Frankly, I say we take all the Gitmo detainees, put them on a plane, hand them parachutes, and drop them somewhere over France.

  2. Why doesn’t Holder just take them into his home, give them a roof over their head, get them job training and new jobs.  Hmmm???  Just another a case of “not in my back yard”.  Better yet, put them in the White House with Barry and the wife and kids.  After all, if they are good enough and safe enough for our allies to take, they sure as hell are safe enough for Barry to take.  If he didn’t want them in the White House he could send them to his house in Chicago which is vacant most of the time.  Wouldn’t the Hyde Park neighbors love that - right at home with Bill Ayres, the loud mouth preacher, Calypso Louie.  These guys would fit right in.

  3. Amateur hour continues…  why do you think Bush put them there in the first place? He got the same reponse the mighty O is now…

RS is correct. Europe wants nothing to do with these terrorists.

  4. Terrorists?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but have there been trials to verify that?

As far as our defense costs we spend way too much on it and disappointing is that the Obama hasn’t cut it back. We spend way too much on war toys.

  5. If you think they aren’t terrorists - we’ll send them over to your house for a few minutes. When they are done with you - we’ll put them back in prison…  mmmmmk?

  6. Say, Keith, your brother in idiocy cancelled the trials.  But, hey, keep drinking the Kool Aide.

  7. Give them a job with GM.  that will keep them busy and out of trouble.  And hey.  There’s a large Muslim population in the Dearborn.  They’d be right at home.  (I’m just thinking about there comfort.  No “racist” accusations, please)

  8. I think Keith has room in his home for these ‘fine upstanding adults’....

Still waiting for Keith to tell me what the world would be like if Saddam were still in power..

  9. Just heard Rush discuss this on his show today.  He said Holder is in Germany pleading for them to take some, the French to take some and he’s there because he can’t be truthful with the American people on this.  Barry has promised to close Gitmo Jan. 2010 and according to Rush they are planning on just releasing these terrorists into the general public here in America.  Just let them go.  If this is true, be afraid, very afraid for our country and our safety.

  10. Not sure why you chose to use the word “beg”.  Telling Europe to “man up” would seem to be more appropriate.

“According to Rush…”.  Kneenor, you’re kidding, right?
