Hoffa Predicts Civil War

Of course. It’s the only tactic he knows.

(CNN) - Jimmy Hoffa, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said Tuesday he expects Michigan unions and lawmakers to break out into “civil war” after the state legislature passed right-to-work bills that would weaken unions’ power.

“This is just the first round of a battle that’s going to divide this state. We’re going to have a civil war,” Hoffa said on CNN’s “Newsroom.”

  1. Hoffa and the Democrats-fighting for slavery.

The kicker here is, if Unions are valuable, “right to work” legislation gives everyone the choice.  Current law forces people to join Unions against their will.

Last I checked, slavery meant lack of choice.

Can we call Hoffa the 21st Century Jefferson Davis?

  2. Hmmm. Slavery, huh? Let’s say I want to be a member of an organization, such as the chamber of commerce, to enjoy the benefits of the organization but without paying any dues. Not sure the chamber would go along with that.  But why should it suffer a freeloader to benefit from its work?  You realize under the law unions have to represent the interests of all employees whether they are members or not? Right?

  3. Unions are not required to represent all employees.

  4. Dave,

You are throwing around the term “freeloader”?

You are concerned people will enjoy the benefits without working/paying for them?

    That’s very conservative of you.

I’m a director of a franchise organization and I’d love to have all stores members of the Association, to increase our power representing franchisee interests…can I have a law forcing all of them to join as well?

They all receive the benefit of our competing supply chain and franchisee rights protection we offer.

So I can force all franchisees to join?  Even though some of them don’t agree with association and feel our parent franchisor does no wrong?
