  1. Are we figuring in human costs as well or just focusing on the dollars like you do with taxes?

  3. Let me elaborate… do you factor in the human costs when you buy a car?  After all, the vehicle you buy could be used - intentionally or not - to kill or maim someone.  In fact, it’s far more likely that your car will hurt someone than my gun.

If you don’t want a gun, then don’t buy one.  As for me, I’m heading to the range today.

  4. This would be a great place to spend that Tax Rebate check folks.  Buying an American made gun helps the economy, helps preserve an American civil right and angers the prohibitionist.  What more could you ask for?  Oh ya, hold out about 30 bucks from that check to join the NRA-all gun owners should belong.

Green Bay gun dealer speaks at Va. Tech
Blacksburg, Va. - The Wisconsin online weapons dealer who sold one of the guns used in the Virginia Tech shootings visited the campus Thursday, a decision the school’s spokesman called “terribly offensive.”

    ......................................................
Goddard questioned whether Thompson’s motivation was to make money by selling more guns. Thompson said he was selling guns at cost for two weeks to help students afford weapons.

Doesn’t this guy have a whole bunch of different internet sites that sell guns?  Looks like there is one that will sell guns at cost to support 2nd amendment rights, another one to help students afford weapons.

Kind of ironic that the confirmation box uses “various”

  7. It’s an unfortunate coincidence that he ended up selling firearms to these two shooters.  He is doing what he believes is right to make up for it.  He is not profiting off the tragedy.

Wish he was. He instead is mocking the dead and their families. What as ass.

  9. I’m in the market for a S&W;airweight and a mossberg tactical shotgun…  Those prices don’t seem that great.  I guess I don’t know what cost is on some of those guns but I expect that it would be much less then they are advertising.

Again, I don’t know what cost really is.

    Its a freedom thing Keith… you wouldn’t understand…

  11. How is he mocking anyone.  Does Ford mock everyone who ever died in one of its cars whenever it puts them on sale?

  12. If this is the guy I’m thinking of, he’ll ultimately be “tagged” as the “Dr. Jack Kevorkian” of gun ownership.  I don’t care either way, I just don’t know if this guy is the “horse to ride” as far as promoting responsible gun ownership & rights.  Seems like he is using the media (and obviously sites like this) to boost his profile and drive consumers to his Internet sites.

I followed the link, note that one of the touted advantages is if you aren’t from Wisconsin, you save on sales tax because it is an internet purchase:

Savings. No sales tax outside of Wisconsin

Perfectly legitimate (as long as your state doesn’t have a way of accessing a record of the purchase so that they can hit you for sales tax - I wouldn’t have this guy give me tax advice), but just other day at this very blog, there was a lot of wailing that some elected officials were “gaming the system” because they were deducting mileage from their taxable income:

  13. Wow.  I didn’t realize that a single sentence that uses the phrase “gaming the system” was considered “wailing.”  Good to know.

As to your point, with internet sales the seller is not responsible for collecting the sales tax for other states.  Technically, whoever is purchasing the firearm in another state should pay the sales tax in their state anyway.  They just have to take care of it themselves.

  14. Actually the “wailing” referred to some of the comments, but probably that wasn’t the best choice of words.  I should have commented in that thread about how it seemed like a “non-issue” and that the MJS must be sucking air out of the well of stories that they pump from.  Germantown must run a very tight ship of fiscal responsibility if that was the best that the Journal could find.

I know that the internet seller is not responsible for collecting sales tax, but the site cites as an advantage “Savings - No Sales Tax Outside of Wisconsin”.  That’s quite a difference from saying what you said re: responsibility of the purchaser to take care of it themselves.  It seems to me like nonpayment of the tax is being promoted as a way to save some money - i.e., “gaming the system”.  And by the way, I don’t think mail order purchase should be taxed, but I’ll have to wait until that is the topic of a post.
