  1. If Texas is that opposed to Federal involvement in their bailiwick then perhaps it is time to start closing military bases down there.

Listening to Perry rattle and preen almost makes one forget that he’s made such a botch of his administration that they’ve discussed a $5 tax on stripclub cover charges to fund schools.

Hutchison will be taking this fool to school and damn soon.

  2. He’s sending a strong message.  This should be interesting when Janet Napolitano puts him on the DHS terrorism watch list.

    Don’t mess with Texas. :zpopcorn:

  3. I wonder if he was as opposed to say, the feds taking an increased role in public education, or mandating states’ requirements for issuing drivers’ licenses, or overruling state environmental laws, or overruling state medical marijuana laws, or mandating that a woman in a vegetative state be kept alive at taxpayer expense.

Or, I wonder, did his outrage, along with that of many in his party, just magically spring in say the last 2 months or so?

I know where the smart money in Vegas would go.

  4. 15 years in Texas tells me that this is not new.  It’s been coming a long time.  ATV, you misread this.  They want to decide for themselves about rights-to-life (or death), about education, about medical marijuana.

You doubters are wrong, wrong, wrong.

  6. Wow, that was an impressive display of nothing.  We’re only going to take the money that we want to take from the federal government, and that’s that.

  7. Time to saddle up and move back to White Settlement.  I’m ready to oil my guns and pack my bible.  Those of you who want the fed’s to wipe your nose and clean your a—please stay here.

  8. Texas is the recipient of one of the highest rates of federal monies and Wisconsin is one of the lowest. I am wondering if we could have a little cut of their federal welfare when they secede from the union.

They will also still remain the highest in illegal immigrants but then again they could always join Mexico to solve that problem.

  9. Good to see the Leftys continue to miss the point.

    But that’s what they do.

  10. And what exactly is the point, Steve? That a Republican governor can suddenly find outrage at how the federal government operates when a Democrat is in the White House, after a noticeable lack of similar rage when the same thing happened for eight years prior?

Most of us already know poiticians magically find their voice when members of the opposite party do things they didn’t complain much about when it was their own side doing it.

  11. For instance, see “Republicans, outrage, deficits, after Janary 20, 2009”.

    Yawn.

    .

I’ve always wondered why the Feds have never wanted to invest in Wisconsin.

    High Taxes? wink

  13. So are you lefty’s saying that you agreed with George Bush’s policies that Obama is continuing/expanding? Like the warrantless wiretaps? http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2009/04/obama-doj-worse-than-bush

Or are we all guilty of the same thing?

  14. Matt,

    I’m not a lefty.

Both parties and their sychophantic hack followers are guilty of the same thing. Assuming you are one, then you’re guilty of supporting violations of the 10th amendment that suit your agenda and of being a hypocrite when you use the state’s rights argument against policies you oppose.

If you oppose the policy on its merits, then oppose it. But don’t use an argument you have no problem violating when it’s a policy you support.

Such hypocrisy is in the DNA of the partisan and the ideologue. Dems are no different - I was in D.C. when Democrats were in the minority, complaining about deficits in front of the cameras and then going into approps committee hearings to complain that not enough was being spent on, well, anything.

I could well be wrong, but I’m going to bet Perry and other state elected Republicans have only become vocal on this topic in the last 3 months, because they’re hacks and it gives their hack followers something to blog about and something for their hack operatives to put in fundraising letters. But it has little if anything to do with principle or good governance.
