Government Agency To Approve Loan and “Save” Bucyrus Jobs

Golly, who could have predicted this turn of events?

The U.S. Export-Import Bank has found a way to approve $600 million in mining equipment orders for Bucyrus International, saving up to 1,000 U.S. jobs, Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Wis., said Wednesday.

Oh yeah… it was me

  1. The only interesting thing here was the way it was announced. Obama doesn’t announce it, Feingold (running for re-election) doesn’t announce it, Barrett (running for governor) doesn’t announce it.

They have Kohl - who probably WON’T run for another announce this. Just weird.

Are they trying to play the balance of not pissing off the envirowackos vs. keeping everyone else happy with the job news?

  2. I think they realize that most people know they are saving the jobs from themselves.  This is not some politician on a white horse vanquishing “evil corporations”.  We know who was going to kill the jobs.

People are happy in the way that they are happy when a tornado does not touch down.

  3. Bill, that is an interesting observation. Wondering if it could be that a Barrett and/or Feingold announcement would make the whole thing so transparent (that’s transparent a bad way) that everybody would see though it as an orchestrated PR stunt. Kohl provides a mild distraction.

  5. Must’ve been that letter that Walker ran in the Racine paper.  He’s quite a wordsmith.

  6. It’s not exactly a Done Deal.  Reliance has to promise to build 250MW of banana-burning plants.  Or something like that.

  7. Yep, Dad’s right.  From jsonline:

Kohl said the bank would support the loan guarantees provided that the Indian borrower, Reliance Power Ltd., moves ahead with renewable energy projects that also could use U.S. made equipment

.  Why would Alliance take on the added expense when they don’t have to?  Reliance can easily get the equipment from somewhere else.

  8. I disagree with those that say this was brought about by Barrett or Feingold or anyone else.  This is all about Obama.  they could have made this announcement yesterday but they waited for Obama to visit so he can take the credit.  You have to remember that Obama is an “all about me” kind of guy.

  10. What the hell does Obama think he’s playing at with this environmental BS. Does he think that India is going to stop mining coal if they don’t get the equipment from the US? Does he even stop to think that if the contract goes to a Chinese firm it will be worse for the environment? Or is this more of the environmentalist “hear no evil, see no evil” crap.

I am sick and tired of the lies and parlor tricks, in the name of “saving the environment.”
