Here’s an interesting article about generational differences.
The victories of Generation Y will not look like the Boston Tea Party. They will look like primary elections across the country: Gen Y, playing by the rules, and winning.
When Gen-Xers were this age, we graduated into the worst job market since the Great Depression. We were so overwhelmed with trying to earn a living that voting was the last thing on our minds. And when Baby Boomers were this age, they were protesting, and dodging the draft, and disrupting the establishment. So in a way, it ‘s remarkable how engaged, optimistic, and rule-abiding Gen Y members are during their 20s.
But as a group, Gen Y is fundamentally conservative. They adore their parents and they work really hard at what they love, which is exactly how their parents raised them to be. So it ‘s not surprising that they are becoming politically active. Voting is a way for people who color-within-the-lines to instigate change. Voting is a fundamentally conservative way to tell the establishment to get out of the way.
And this is the same way that Generation Y is telling Baby Boomers to get out of their way at work. Gen Y plays by the rules, meets expectations, and in the same step, pulls the rug out from under the people with power. How? By refusing to pay dues, by customizing their own career paths instead of lusting after a promotion, and by job hopping when learning curves get flat.
Of course, the writer indulges some sweeping generalizations, but it makes for a thought-provoking read.
Is OBAMA a REPUBLICAN in disguise?
Don’t be manipulated by a promising speech that is enjoyable to listen to—do the research! Do the work it takes to determine, to the best of your ability, the best possible candidate for President.
Our economy is suffering, our education, health care, and so many other systems are broken. If we don’t concentrate first on solving the problems we are faced with here in America, then we cannot lead the world!
Only a successful leader will motivate the world to follow. The world hates us right now; failed policies from the Bush administration have generated an overwhelming world opinion of utter disgust for, and lack of faith in America. We can change that by first restoring our own faith in America. We can change that by electing a leader we can trust to clearly outline exactly how these problems can be solved.
BEWARE AMERICA!
Do NOT vote for a candidate who does not clearly define just how to solve our problems. Do NOT vote for a candidate who avoids answering important questions, gives great speeches but doesn’t promise to specifically change policies, many of which will directly affect the wealth of major corporations. If you see that a candidate is non-committal, BEWARE! If it sounds too good to be true, then it IS!
My main concern today is that America is about to vote in to office as the Democratic Presidential Nominee, a man who never outlines specifics and is eager to shake the hands of Republicans currently in office who are all to blame for the mess we are in right now! Is Obama a private Republican in a public Democrats’ clothing? MAYBE!
I’d rather not roll the dice. Instead, I am supporting Hillary Clinton for her ideas, her clear intent to find solutions for the problems we currently suffer, and her pledge to be held accountable. She answers questions, debates, speaks to the majority of Americans, and is clearly making Republicans panic. Obama does not pose a threat to them and this leads me to believe that he won’t “CHANGE” anything!
I’ve read all about the corrupt man in Illinois who sold him is house. I’ve learned that he avoids debates with Hillary, doesn’t take questions as easily, and although its very easy to be inspired by his rhetoric, I see no concrete plans. He either A: Has no idea what he is getting himself in to, (which is impossible since he is an educated man with support of many wise campaign pros), or B: Reserves making promises he knows he won’t keep. I am quite sure he wants to be re-elected if he is elected this fall, so breaking promises would strip away the possibility of that. But will America really vote for a candidate who can run his entire campaign on just great speeches and continue to remain vague?
MAYBE.
AMERICA! Wake up! Be inspired, get passionate! But if you don’t demand specifics, you may end up voting for a wolf in sheep’s clothing! We cannot afford to sleep through this history-making election and we cannot afford to choose a candidate whose religious beliefs perfectly match our own. Let’s face it, Bush was a wolf in sheep’s clothing for many Christians! I didn’t vote for him and I was shocked and upset when Gore wasn’t our President in 2000. But I understand that since Bill made a mistake that influenced moral majorities to listen to Bush’s campaign slogans that included bringing morality back to the White House, enough Christians listened to make it a close race. Way to go Bush! The Christians followed you and you laughed all the way to the bank! How much of your filthy money have you given to the Church?
Only knowledge and common sense will elect a President who will first restore America and then go on to restoring the world’s faith in America. When that happens, we will have less foreign issues than we do now. They won’t all go away, but we’ll have a leader who will protect us with dignity.
That was one of the dumbest articles I’ve read in a long time.
First, you emos need to stop blaming “the establishment” for McCain’s victory. You need to accept the fact that your message doesn’t sell to enough people to bring you the power you want.
That’s how democratic systems work. Sometimes you get rejected.
Deal with it.
Second this tripe was like a astrology chart. Vague enough to cover everyone so it sounds right.
Nevermind Gen Y is overwhelmingly less homophobic than Gen X or older folks, they are more interested in environmentalism, they’ve grown up during a time when the two-parent family was not the dominant social norm, and they don’t know who Ronald Reagan is and don’t much care about the philosophy he allegedly used to govern (when he wasn’t approving tax increases or fleeing Lebanon).
Give me a break.
All i can say is, just because the generation Y has more information on their hands given the technology at hand, does not make them any smarter. These kids need more training, because of their arrogance they think they know so much but actually know so little. What will this world come to in the future? Gasp.
