Isn’t ironic that a group designed to hold government accountable does so much in secret?
In its first year as the state’s government watchdog, the Government Accountability Board completed 29 investigations into ethics and elections complaints.
But for all but the seven that resulted in settlements, forfeitures, or formal findings, the board can’t tell the public what it did and why, according to board members and staff who cite the law creating the board.
Not ironic at all.
The Legislators designed it that way.
Do open records come into play here at all? Not that I have ever achieved any level of success with that avenue…
Also notice that the GAB hasn’t updated their website with campaign finance reports since July. There have been two reporting deadlines in September and October, yet reports for these periods are nowhere to be found. Glad to see the increased efficiency of the GAB.
why wasn’t this brought out before passage?
