Fraudulent Job Data Released By Federal Government

Kudos to the MJS for getting on the story of widespread fraud in the government’s job report.

A stimulus job report that says more than 10,000 jobs were saved or created in Wisconsin is rife with errors, double counting and inflated numbers based more on satisfying federal formulas than creating real jobs, a Journal Sentinel review has found.

In one case, five jobs were mistakenly listed as 50 - and then counted twice. In another, pay raises to workers were listed as saving more than 100 jobs. And in another, jobs were listed as saved even though the money had not been received and no work on the project had begun.

The problems mirror those surfacing around the country, as the federal numbers claiming 640,000 jobs created or saved by stimulus money are being scrutinized.

Here’s my favorite one…

United Migrant Opportunity Services based in Milwaukee reported saving 113 jobs through spending $18,000 of a Head Start preschool grant, or about $160 per job. The award provided their employees a 1.8% cost-of-living wage increase. The nonprofit provides services to migrant farm workers in Wisconsin and other states.

“We think the 113 jobs were preserved, but more importantly, the quality of teachers and Head Start child development staff was maintained,” UMOS spokesman Rod Ritcherson said.

In total, 157 jobs were reported saved as part of 17 Head Start grants in Wisconsin, all attributed to cost-of-living increases.

...what’s yours?

  1. You really have to take your hat off to the MJS.  Every once in awhile, they do a very good and in-depth job of what really is going on in the world and state.

The expose on the fraud in the Wisconsin Shares program was excellent and will probably lead to significant changes in that program.  It remains to be seen where they’re going with this story, but I certainly hope it’s not a one-day thing.

Still, my hat is off to them, particularly since this story comes the day after Mr. Saved or Created Jobs visited Wisconsin.

  2. I hope none of this comes as a surprise to anyone.  It’s best to assume a politician is lying until proven otherwise.  Most of the time, truth from a politician is only an accident.

  3. Does this new suprise anyone??  The BO administration had to cook the numbers because they didn’t want the American people to find out that all the stimulus money went down the crapper and there’s nothing to show for it.  Thank God I still have my part-time job, but I didn’t get a raise this year.  Other than lucky to have a job, what kind of statistic am I?

  4. President Obama claimed 1,000,000 new jobs yesterday in Madison.

Yes he made up an additional 350,000 in one week.

    The man is a genius.

  5. My favorite is watching government people think they actually do anything other than impoverish, imprison or execute.

  6. Oddly enough, we did not qualify for any stimulus money.
But just knowing it was out there, we created 4 billion new jobs. Obama is being modest.

  7. We should all be terrified to see the cost of each actual saved or created job once the press weeds out the BS from the WH.

  9. Where are all the lefties on this? Anyone?

Seems that Barack Obama has proven to be one of the most prolific liars in Presidential history in only a few short months. The largest single serving spending bill in United States history is an absolute indefensible SHAM, I like Russ Feingold’s idea…. Return EVERY unspent dollar to the treasury, NOW.

I hope those who voted for this clown are proud.
