Finding Peggy West’s borders

My column for the Daily News is online.  It’s called, “Finding Peggy West’s borders.”  Here’s the main point:

Supervisor West’s exhibition also serves as a valuable reminder of that which every American instinctively knows. One is not necessarily more intelligent by virtue of being elected to serve in office. Politicians should remember that fact when they seek to enact laws with ramifications well beyond their capacity to understand.

  1. There does come a time when it’s advisable to put down the Burrito and pick up a Book. The up side? She’s received enough maps that she’ll be able to donate them to the Milwaukee school system so other up and coming Liberals don’t make the same mistake in the future, provided they study better than Ms. West.

    MATC educated….........................indeed.

  6. Since racism is defined as believing that race determines who is better than another or that one race is superior to another, the crack about a burrito isn’t racist.  Bigoted?  Sure.

Don’t blame ya.  In fact after reading the definition of bigot, I’m not sure the burrito crack fits that either.  I had a different definition in mind.

What kind of burrito?  That may make a big difference.

Nah…, it’s not biggoted or racist. Just a poorly formed allegory. Lighten up - the libs bathe regularly in the waters of political correctness and they’re going under for the third time.

    Had to fix that.

Also if it’s a bean burrito, I’m not a bit shocked.  A bean burrito is one of the most boring unimaginative uncreative burritos in existence.  Now a jalapeno steak burrito….that’s good eats.

  13. So eager to denounce my my statement, yet no take on Ms P*ggy? I don’t vote on bills and legislation that effect people of the state, nor moves to “boycott other states businesses, Ms. West does. How is it my statement garners more attention? You need to focus on what is important laker, not running around looking for inconsequential posts to whine about. Besides, you being a flaming Liberal precludes me from taking anything you say as worthy of consideration because to be a Liberal in essence makes you incapable of having a modicum of honesty, or honor. In words you can understand, that means you are a liar, cheat, and a sworn enemy of all that America stands for, there for my enemy. I give a damn what you think of me because what I think of you is much worse.

Jay4 liberty, sorry if I offended you.

  14. No you didn’t Scott.  I just am amazed every day how people confuse racism with….whatever we want to call it.  Pointing out a stereotype maybe?  Whatever.

Seriously you’d have to do a lot worse to offend me.  Actually just say “I’m from the government, I’m in charge and I’m here to help.”  that’d do it.

Posted by Jay4Liberty on June 29, 2010 at 1356 hrs

  15. I think the word or phrase you’re searching for is ‘racial stereotype’.  But, if in fact Latinos enjoy burritos as a common meal, is it a stereotype?

“How is it my statement garners more attention?”

Waaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!  BOO HOO HOO!!!  Oh, quit whining, you little bitch!  What’s the matter Scotty?  Mommy didn’t breast feed you?  No one played with you when you were a child?  Grow the fuck up!  Seriously.

“In words you can understand, that means you are a liar, cheat, and a sworn enemy of all that America stands for, there for my enemy.”

Wow!  Sworn enemy of all that America stands for?  Is that worse than the Taliban?  Dude, you have some SERIOUS ISSUES.  In fact, you have the whole freakin’ subscription.  Is it time for your meds yet?

“I give a damn what you think of me because what I think of you is much worse.”

  17. I guess I’m pretty safe then, Jay. Thanks.

Like I’ve been saying, “racism” has lost it’s actual meaning and is simply used as a degrading term much like honky, cracker, white-boy, etc. I no longer feel the sting because it simply isn’t true, and I won’t be bothered by childish accusations. Those like laker have no other recourse because their counter points to my ideology are empirically flawed and have no basis fact. They refuse to see the truth because it would destroy them.

  20. laker, you are much more dangerous than the Taliban because your votes put traitors into office that will allow them to destroy this country. As a matter of fact Kagan is about to become a Supreme Court Justice which will give her the ability to legislate from the bench in order to further the Liberal Progressive agenda of transforming America from a capitalist a socialist society. the last move to destroying the America most of us(unlike you)grew up loving. This move is the Liberal’s back door enactment of the ideology the American people unanimously rejected through conventional legislation, time and again. In doing this Kagan is in effect undermining the tenets of our Republic, thus marking herself an enemy of the Nation. She will be dealt with as such when the time comes.

  21. They are not accusations laker, they are statements of fact.
Passing UHC without reading it “in order to find out what’s it it”? What the hell is that? Calling Arizona’s law to protect their citizens from violent drug gangs and illegal immigrants unlawful without even reading it?
Get real, what you Liberals are doing should be understood for what it is.
A Dennis Miller comparison is not a slam as far as I’m concerned. Try harder next time.

Scott, all kidding and differences aside for the moment, I think you are skating on thin ice by making a statement like this in a public forum.  You may want to ease up a bit.  Seriously.

  23. I am 100% conservative, but that last statement by Scott(I-C), really makes me cringe.  We are a nation of laws, and BHO was elected fairly and he has a right to select a nomination to the Supreme Court and the Senate must confrim her.  Elections have consequences, if she is so bad than the Senate Republicans need to make a big stink about her, I have yet to see that.

I pray that you are just in a bad mood and that you lost your temper a bit, I also hope that I misinterepted what you said, about “she will be dealt with when the time comes”.  Statements like that will not help our cause.

    Just my .02.

No.  No we’re not.  This line of thinking leads down a path that is incredibly scary and no one that is “100% Conservative” would dare utter such nonsense.

  25. What’s the matter? Getting to close to the truth?

The only reason I should “fear” voicing my opinion is because my first amendment right no longer exists. If that’s the case, then I will “have to” rely on exercising my second amendment right because it will have become glaringly apparent this Government has indeed moved to being tyrannical. Too many have become apathetic as to their responsibilities as FREE Americans, others will not be chained by their neighbor’s indifference. Patriots take a stand while cowards sit by and “cringe”. Get a frikkin pair. or get out of the way. Have you forgotten this Government exists to serve US? If not, your (not mine) Government has effectively castrated you and made you their eunuch.

If Kagan’s views were those of a Conservative, rather than a Liberal bent, she wouldn’t have even made it to the Senate’s questioning stage, she would have been rejected outright. Now if the so called Republicans on this committee were actual conservatives they would have done the same, their inaction proves they are not working in the best interests of the Nation. It’s bad enough Sotomayor was given a pass in the Senate, but Kasgan is going to be the nail in the Constitution’s coffin. And to even think Feingold, or Kohl have any intention of denying her id pure foolishness.

It’s like saying Ronald Reagan graduated

  29. Jay…are you calling John Adams, “scary”?  And what, in your mind, is the definition of a “100% conservative”?  Can that actually be quantified into a percentage?

Saying you’re 100% of something and then advocating the opposite of what you claim to be 100% of makes no sense.  Someone who claims to be conservative also most likely is “small government” correct?  Well why would a conservative give up his want for small government in order to be ruled by “laws”.  Claiming “we are a nation of laws” says to me you are abdicating your ability and responsibility for self government and wishing for someone else (government people) to do the governing for you.

Yeah, John Adams was scary.  A lot of his writings and thoughts began the slow descent into what we are dealing with now.  John Adams may have been a founder but he was still a federalist.  Most federalists believed in a strong central government to “run things”.  That being said, he’s light years better than anything we’ve had in the last 100+ years.

Now this post was about Peggy West wasn’t it?  She’s still a dumb broad.

Posted by Jay4Liberty on June 29, 2010 at 1834 hrs

  30. Dumb? Most definitely! Broad? More like Double Wide. Probably cost the tax payers extra to get her a “sizable” chair. Hope she doesn’t plan on a lot of air travel because it’ll cost them for two seats.

  31. We are a nation of laws

No.  No we’re not.  This line of thinking leads down a path that is incredibly scary and no one that is “100% Conservative” would dare utter such nonsense.

I don’t agree. We are a nation formed by a very concise set of basic laws that govern the way our nation will be administered. Conservative is not anarchist. Conservatives often believe in limited government… but certainly not no government at all. If the federal government would restrict itself to it’s Constitutional duties (without exceeding them) we would be in very good shape indeed. Also, please note that the Constitution does not describe how local government and state government should function. It’s sets forth some basic laws for them, but provides that each state may make choices for themselves.

Laws we need. Excessive laws and over regulation we do not.

Posted by .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on June 29, 2010 at 2036 hrs

  32. Laws we need. Excessive laws and over regulation we do not.

Agreed, but when you state “We are a nation of laws” you are giving up the individual rights guaranteed to you by the Constitution (or better yet, natural rights given to you by God, or Mother Earth or whomever) and giving control and management over to those who make the laws.  “We are a nation of laws” implies that without popularity contest winners constantly making more and more new laws to tell you what to do everything would collapse.  This isn’t true.

Seriously I’m beginning to think if government actually followed the Constitution and the thinking behind it’s writing, a great deal of “conservatives” would run around screaming for someone to be in charge.

Peggy West is still a dumb broad.

Posted by Jay4Liberty on June 29, 2010 at 2045 hrs

  33. ”...when you state “We are a nation of laws” you are giving up the individual rights guaranteed to you by the Constitution.”

I disagree.  The Constitution (BOR) expressly states those natural rights and freedoms which shall not be infringed upon by Congress through legislative actions.  I believe that “scary” James Madison guy was responsible for that.

I agree with Son of Liberty: conservatism is not about the promotion of lawlessness or anarchy.  A nation of law is required in order to ensure social contracts are maintained, the weak are not oppressed by the strong, and a society founded on basic principles of morality and decency through Judeo-Christian values may continue to prosper as the Founders envisioned it.

  34. Apparently no one notices that the former half-term Governor of Alaska pulled her own Peggy West while speaking in California last weekend.

She said that former President Reagan was a graduate of a non-existent university in California.

No one takes her to task here for her continual, uninterrupted idiocy.  Many even promote her for President.

  37. oh really annOnymus.

So you are putting a comment about about a college that a president attended on par with a state that is relevant to the discussion at hand.

I would expect most Americans to have some idea where each state is - i wouldn’t expect most Americans to know what college any president attended.

Now, if they were discussing a bill that would disallow graduates of certain universities to enter politics - then perhaps, it would be relevant.

And to take Ms. West at her word - she should oppose the boycott once she discovered Arizona is indeed a border state.

  38. Seriously I?m beginning to think if government actually followed the Constitution and the thinking behind it?s writing, a great deal of ?conservatives? would run around screaming for someone to be in charge.

The Constitution DOES put someone in charge… and it is very specific about who is in charge of what. It provides a legal framework of laws around which a well run federation of states can work together for mutual success. I think we just have a semantic difference of opinion over what we mean by “a nation of laws”. Pelican is right… the Constitution restricts government from making certain types of laws, and charges them with regulating certain activities through the use of other laws.

@Ann O’Nymus: You must be joking to make such a foolish comparison. Are you related to Peggy? If you are, get her a Garmin, for I fear she may be dangerous to herself if she travels alone. Who knows, she may wind up in a foreign country like New Mexico without her passport.

Palin gets pounded on if she has a smudge on her lipstick. Peggy deserves to be a laughingstock…
