Favre to Retire!!!

HEADLINE!

Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Favre began telling team officials on Monday night that he will not return for another season.  The disclosure comes on the heels of an observation from Zulgad that team “ownership and power brokers” held a meeting at practice that “looked very intense.”

Zulgad also reports that Favre plans to issue a press release later today.  Apparently, Favre’s injured ankle “has not responded” after surgery and rehab.

Whatever.  As Wendy said, it’s only August 3rd.

  1. He has to say this in order to come into camp two weeks late.  He is under contract this year, so he has to do this to avoid being fined.

  4. I’ll believe it when I see it.  I agree with Scott - sounds like people weren’t paying enough attention to Brent.

  5. Wouldn’t be too hard to release a statement saying “I haven’t made up my mind yet.”

But, he loves the attention from afar.

  8. This is news, why? hmmm

Isn’t this the same routine he’s pulled now for the past, what six or seven years?  The “Should-I-retire-but-I-need-time-to-think-about-it-and-decide-at-the-latest-possible-moment-so-I-can-squeeze-the-most-media-coverage-out-of-it-I’ll-retire-wait!-no-I-changed-my-mind-I’m-playing-for-someone-else” one?

  9. If only we could get him to move to West Bend and run for the school board.  Seems they can’t quite make up their mind either.

  11. I hope he comes back….

So he can go out with a broken tibia. Seriously though, does anyone actually believe he will retire before he is absolutely broken and beaten?

  12. The man never did like training camps. You think he would play at least one season for the Raiders before sitting down.
League policy must state all pension requests must be filed from Oakland.

  13. Oakland: Where good players and bad attitudes go to die.

I have thought for three years that it was about time Favre was put out to pasture, but today he came out and said that he will play if his ankle heals…

    And so it begins again.
