Do you have a favorite Christmas song? I have a couple—O Holy Night and this one:

What are your favorite Christmas songs? Least favorite?

UPDATE: Another favorite. Makes me think of my dad. Hi, Dad!

  1. My favorite Christmas song is “Christmas Song” by the Blues Travelers.  It is hard to pick a least favorite because it comes down to versions.  I can’t remember by whom, but there was a common Christmas carol put out a few years back by a ‘popular’ female artist that sang like it was a dirge.  It was horrible.  I have blocked it so thoroughly, I can’t remember which one it was.  Imagine Silent Night sung at a funeral by pro-wrestling’s the Caretaker…

  2. Mercy Me’s version of “What Child is This”

    Kutless   “This is Christmas”

Kutless version of “It came upon a midnight clear”

I also agree “O Holy Night” is the ultimae Christmas classic, but many do it well, many sing it not so well.  I like Carrie Underwood’s version and also Celine Dion’s version of O Holy Night.

  3. Least favorite:

    Jingle Bells

Grandma got Run Over By a Reindeer

    Baby, its cold outside

These “songs” demonstrate what is not good music.  I need a Q tip to clean my ears after hearing this tripe.

  6. Tuergas, I think you might be referring to Silent Night done by Sinead OConner (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87q5dmW6zDg).  That would actually be my number 4.

  15. The worst one is that one about “christmas shoes.”  Just brutal.

Favorites are We Three Kings, The Little Drummer Boy and Oh Holy Night (ironic that an athiest likes all the real Jesus-y ones, no?)

  16. To all my fellow bloggers, sorry, but at long as we’re on the subject of Christmas music:
Kick start your Christmas season by coming to see me and fortunately other more talented people sing a Christmas Cantata this weekend: Trinity Lutheran Church, 140 S. 7th Avenue, Saturday, December 3rd at 6:30pm, or Sunday, December 4th at 9:30am.

  18. David, no the song I was thinking of was “We Three Kings” by Patti Smith.  It is on the same CD as the Blues Travelers “Christmas”.  The very Special Christmas 3 CD.  Overall, it is my favorite Christmas CD, which is why that Patti Smith song is all the worse.  I like We Three Kings normally, but a church full of tone deaf old ladies would sound better than her.  Oich!
