Explosion in Education Spending

Via Tom McMahon via The Buck Stops Here.

Has the quality of our education gone up with that increasing price?  What kind of value is America getting for their money spent on education?  Bear in mind that these are constant dollars.

  1. Unfortunately, the educational blob determines success and commitment via inputs not outcomes.

Money= Good. Lower class sizes = good, Newer buildings = good.

Test scores? Graduation rates? Post secondary or workforce readiness? Whatever.

  2. Don’t you think that the ballooning costs have more to do with the falling value of the dollar?  That was kind of shown with the cost of oil.  We didn’t have to drill, just increase the strength of the dollar to help lower the cost.

  3. It depends, there have been improvements in some areas.  I think technology education certainly is better as well as special education.  In general, since they added all the BS in classes, teaching fads, lack of discpline in the schools and political correctness gone amok, education has gone downhill and more and more students are falling through the cracks or are not being properly educated.

  4. capper,

This graph is with constant dollars.  The value of the dollar is not relevant.

    We import oil, not education
