Evers Caught Using Taxpayer Resources for Campaign Fundraising

On February 28th, Mark Belling broke a story that one of the candidates for the State Department of Public Instruction had a highly placed DPI bureaucrat, Jeff Dickert was sending out campaign and fund raising emails on behalf of the establishment’s candidate Tony Evers from his official state email account, something that is so clearly illegal, that Dickert himself asked that his actions be investigated. Citizens for Responsible Government also filed a complaint.

Today, as a result of the Open Records Requests issued by Belling, he reported that the DPI candidate himself asked that this illegal action be done on his behalf. More details and reaction from the Fernandez campaign follows…

  1. This whole thing has been rather confusing. One part says that the Candidate, Evers, asked for the investigation and another part says that Dickert turned himself in. I agree with one of the posters on Badger Blogger that they should post these e-mails online. He claims that he has the proof but does not post it for everyone to see. I am not saying that I don’t believe him but he should post these ASAP.

Dickert is the one who said he was going to turn himself in.  He was on local talk show with host Jerry Bader.  When Bader pointed out his actions were illegal, Dickert said he didn’t know that and would be reporting himself to the state elections board.  First of all that’s a lie because Dickert is currently a county supervisor from the Sheboygan area, and 2nd I believe he did that to deflect the attacks on him.  Just the other day Bader did a follow up where he called the elections board to see if Dickert did actually turn himself in and the board said they were unable to comment.  It had something to do with confidentiality.  So we don’t know for sure if this guy did report himself or if he was just blowing smoke.

  3. If he knew it was illegal why would he be telling everyone on a talk show? Not a very good way to hide your activities. He should have known, I’ll agree.

    The question yet to be answered is: What did Evers know and did he tell them to do it? I haven’t seen that proven yet.

    He is caught.  But you dont hear about it anywhere.  If this was Rose Fernandez, it would be page one, top of the page..
