Emergency Assistance Needed

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I need to learn how to play basketball by Monday.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Thank you.

  1. Aim high.  Keep your head up. Bounce pass.

  2. Apparently, Wendy is getting up to speed fast:

  3. DON’T and I mean NEVER shoot.  If random misfortune puts the ball in your hands, PASS EVEN BEFORE TAKING A DRIBBLE.  Stay between your man and the basket.  And NEVER SHOOT.

  4. Do you need to learn to play or to coach children?

  5. For a quick few lessons, get Wii Sports Resort and play the basketball games.

Won’t help, but it’ll be fun.

  6. This might be helpful for both palying an coaching.  I liked it because it broke down various facets of basketball (the camera work has a lot to be desired).  If the google basketball fundamentals, you will find several sites.  Good luck.

  7. Wear lots of bling and have your posse intimidate the refs, then you can follow the rules of the elite NBA players, which are different from what everyone else has to follow.

  8. Laker,
It’s a mother/daughter game. Unfortunately, I’m the mother and not the daughter.

  9. To start things off I’d recommend a good mixed drink to relax the nerves - something fruity perhaps. Nothing like a fruity cocktail to calm you down.

After that, a nice massage - and while you’re at it, maybe even a mani/pedicure - a little pampering never hurt, right?

As for the basketball part - keep your head on a swivel, look for the person that has the best chance of actually making a basket, and pass it to them.

If, after scoping out the landscape for the best shooter you realize that it is probably YOU, have some fun with it - try a few aerial 360 slams to get the crowd into it, maybe a 3-pointer from half court right at the buzzer… the crowd will go wild!

    Have fun!

  10. Wendy, in that case, just try not to get injured!  Best advice has already been given: keep your head up, pass the ball (to the person closest to you, not across the court), shoot when you need to, and have fun.

  11. Agree with above DO NOT SHOOT and DO NOT DRIBBLE-these take skill and practice.  Pass quickly if you can and dont throw a pass more than 15 ft. or so.  if there is anyone close to being in betwee you and your target, bounce the pass to them.

The real key is to get back on defense as fast as you can when your team makes a shot or the other team gets a rebound. Run like a deer back towards your basket and people will think you have a lot of hustle.  That’s about the best reputation to have on the court.

  12. Wendy, it’s really simple. Watch Marquette University’s men’s team play. Do the opposite.

  13. IF the two teams are ‘shirts’ and ‘skins’, stick with shirts.

Or, just be one of these guys:

  14. I vote for skins.

  15. Owen, I think you are biased.  LOLOL!

The worst thing to do is embarrass the girl.  So, I would recommend dressing the part, looking tough, but owning a low profile.

  16. If it’s a mother/daughter, you’re set. Kids love it when they find out that they are better at something than their parents.

  17. Grow to 6’9 real quick.

  18. If you don’t already own one, get a sports bra with maximum support, since there’s a lot of running involved and “skins” for women of a certain age is a really bad idea. Sorry Owen!
