Embarrassing

I haven’t commented on the whole Flynn/McBride/Bucher affair (no pun intended) for a variety of reasons.  First, it’s a tawdry circumstance and I feel bad for the children involved to have it play out in public.  Second, the Buchers and I have a rather unfortunate history and any commentary from me is colored by that history.  I could not resist, however, making an observation regarding Jessica McBride’s latest column in her own defense.  It’s embarrassing both for her and everyone else involved.  She should have restrained herself from submitting it.

  1. As if.

  2. Didn’t McBride walk away from another relationship to get married to Bucher?

She obviously likes older men and seems to prefer that they are married to someone else. I agree with Owen that the poor kid (who is only 4 I believe) gets to read all about this when they are a teenager.

  3. Actually, this is one of the first column’s of Jessica’s I agree with.  I never found her to be a great read.  But on this stuff, I really don’t think it is a story, and I think it reflects poorly on the journal that they pursue it as such.  Although, I shouldn’t be surprised, as the Journal hardly qualifies as a newspaper anymore.

I could care less about their affair, and I don’t think we need to pursue things like this in the paper.

  4. I’m not sure what’s worse - the fact that she uses her column for a purely personal screed, or the fact that an editor signed off on allowing this crap to run.  What Jessica McBride thinks of the MJS or coverage of her affair and divorce is general isn’t newsworthy, any more than what Paul Bucher or Chief Flynn thinks about it.

  8. “She should have restrained herself ...”

Isn’t that the story of poor Jessica’s life?  The need for restraint didn’t first arise when she mounted the keyboard last week, Owen.

  9. I find Jessica McBride to be unbelievably sanctimonious, and Ed Flynn is an absolute scumbag of a human being.

Flynn should keep his job, unless there is evidence he was messing around with McBride on the job. Adultery is apparently still on the books in Wisconsin as a crime, although I don’t think Flynn or anyone else really should be hunted down and charged for it.

McBride should be happy she is a professor, and move on with her small little life.

  10. With all the perverse things going on in society and with our Federal government going to communism, excuse me health care, we have to continue to raise issues like this?

The American Music award show was worse then this.

  11. I feel bad for Paul Bucher, but I guess he had fair warning from the beginning.  The worst part of the whole thing is that this sentence was written by a person who makes her living writing and makes it past an editor and a copy editor:

“The media outright lied about the number of ‘public record e-mails’ exchanged between myself and Chief Flynn.”

“myself and Chief Flynn” do they teach grammar any more?

  13. I do wish they would handle this privately, if for no other reason than to protect their daughter.

  14. LA has Britney Spears.

    Milwaukee has Jessica McBride.

Both lead lives that tend to attract the media attention they claim to loath.

  15. People who live and profit, in whole, or part from being part of the public eye can’t have it both ways.

If you are enough of a public figure to be noteworthy to anyone besides your neighbors, enough people will be interested in your private life as well to make it newsworthy. Sorry Jessica “that’s life”

Don’t make money off of being a public figure hosting a radio talk show or participating on sunday morning talk TV and then claim that its so wrong for people to be curious about your aldulterous sexual exploits with other public figures.

I’m a little sick of seeing my face on the TV news

Whatever… You are only sick of seeing your face on NEGATIVE tv news.  I’m sure you had no problem with publicity when it was furthering your career.

Having said that, I suggest you not ask others to take action to mitigate circumstances you could have mitigated yourself.

Suggestion one to keep yourself of local news:

Suggestion 1:  Don’t pursue a public career in mass media

Suggestion 2: Don’t cheat on your husband.

Suggestion 3: If you ignore Suggestion 2, surely don’t cheat on your husband with ANOTHER public figure.

Failure to do even 1 of the above gives you absolutely no moral authority to criticize anyone for reporting on your behaviors.
