His mother is weeping. Hopefully, someday he will understand why.
This just goes to show you that anyone can be brainwashed.
Just eight years ago, Elian Gonzalez arrived in the United States sailing across on a small raft with his mother and several others.
Unfortunately, his mother passed away before making it to freedom, but the controversy of whether the child would stay in the US or be returned to Cuba became worldwide news.
Little Elian was forcefully taken against his will and that of his family’s, and forced to return to Cuba with his estranged father.
Now, at the age of 14, Elian, like every other Cuban school boy, has been forced to join Cuba’s Union of Young Communists
And of that, he is excited.
One of the worst moments of the Clinton administration.
Here in the states, we call them Boy Scouts.
Seriously, Michael? The Boy Scouts are Communists? An organization that boys volunteer to be a member of is equivalent to an organization that kids are forced by their government to be a member of?
You need to seriously evaluate your perceptions.
Another useless comment by Michael. Not every American boy is forced into the Boy Scouts, but every boy is forced into the Cuba’s Union of Young Communists . Nice try Michalel, maybe next time you can actually add something that is intelligent to the conversation instead of the usual useless dribble.
I could school you all on the history of US-Cuba relations, but who has time for that? The short version is that this just one of those “left-wing dictators who imprison and shoot their citizens are worse than the right-wing dictators who imprison and shoot their citizens” narratives. Castro would have been out of power long ago had US policy towards Cuba been the same as US policy towards the Soviet Union. Instead, policy is set by a gang of miscreants in Florida who managed to keep Cubans poor and Castro in charge.
And at least Elian has healthcare.
Well, at least he cleared up that Boy Scouts reference.
Michael, you aren’t making any sense. We can debate U.S./Cuba relations if you like, but that’s not what this post is about. This post is about a boy whose mother died wanting to free him from a Communist regime who has been indoctrinated and forced to join a Young Communists group. If Americans were forced by their government to join the Boy Scouts, you may have a coherent comment, but we aren’t.
Are you arguing that it’s OK with you that people are forced to join organizations because he has socialized health care? Would you support people being forced to join the Young Democrats in America?
What a wonderful day that must have been for all of you police enthusiasts to watch a paramilitary force break into that home with assault weapons and smash and grab around that house, and point those guns at a small child, before removing him…
And it was all done with the aim of “keeping him safe”.
And what the hell happened to your “Tough on Illegal Immigration” stance? After all, he was an illegal right? His parents weren’t born here, and they flagrantly tried to cross the border in order to mooch off our society! He should have been sent back.
According to US law, he is living with his legal guardian. What is the problem?
