Edwards Admits Fathering Child with Mistress

Oh, what courage 

For the first time, John Edwards is publicly admitting that he is indeed the father of a 2-year-old daughter conceived with Rielle Hunter, a campaign videographer with whom he had an affair.

In a written statement provided exclusively to NBC News, the former North Carolina senator and Democratic presidential candidate says he’s taking responsibility for the child, Frances Quinn Hunter:

All well and good to finally do when the kid is two years old and Edwards’ political career is all but dead.  Gutsy move there, Johnny. 

1. He and his handlers must have decided it was better to admit the obvious now than do it the day after his wife’s funeral.

2. U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond fathered a child with a black teenage housekeeper in 1925.  So what?  I’d like to see studies connecting political performance to active libidos.
