In the last six months the U.S. Coast Guard along with the U.S. Navy have found 42 submersibles headed north towards the United States and off the coast of Central America.
That is double the number found in the previous five years combined. These subs can carry as much as 10 tons of drugs or even weapons and some of the latest models can move 15 knots. This is obviously troubling and makes our war on the cartels that much more difficult.
We are currently at Coast Guard Island in Alameda California, where the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Sherman is located. The ship has recently returned from operations off of Central America, where finding these subs is proving difficult. They are primitive but effective and built similar to the subs used in the civil war. Usually about six inches or so sticks above the water, which is almost impossible to spot.
I wonder how many got through.
First the Reporter knows little to nothing about chasing submarines If it is Diesel powered it will have a sound footprint that should be quite easy to track once the Navy has a sound foot print from it. There is no way it could make the whole trip on battery power so it has to have an engine. Engines make noise lots of noise
Second thing if 6 inches or more are above the surface it would show up on airborne radar if it can find a periscope or snorkel it would see that sub for sure.
Plus did you see the wake the thing was leaving It would be very easy to spot from the air.
Sorry a lot of hype in this story
These subs would be very easy to combat if we put the proper effort into hunting them.

Translation… Lets throw trillions and trillions more at the “war on drugs” you know… That noble endeavor that is an excuse for the government to take more of our money to protect us from ourselves.
We can’t keep cocaine out of Lindsey Lohans fucking nose… How the hell are we going to keep it out of the country..
Lets stop making suckers out of the american taxpayers.
Legalize it…

Translation more money… Great… I can’t wait to pay for this too.
I love how the government inflates prices of drugs by providing a protected market for those who are willing to risk the legal reprecussions of getting busted.
Supply and Demand… You know who is glad the government fights the war on drugs! DRUG DEALERS! If this shit was legal they’d lose their income stream.
The harder it is to get drugs in, the higher the prices. Its truly a love-hate relationship.

Lay one or two new SOSUS lines in the Gulf
and problem solved
Posted by on May 03, 2008 at 2112 hrsHell, they could just use the routine training flights to intercept them. No problem. Send out the Apaches or a Fighter Wing from the Southern Command for a little target practice and call it a day.
