Of course. Why punish failure?
The state schools chief agreed Monday not to withhold up to $175 million in federal funding from Milwaukee Public Schools, a threat he made earlier this year because of the district’s repeated failure to meet academic progress targets.
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers and Milwaukee Board of School Directors President Michael Bonds released a joint statement Monday saying that the district acknowledged Evers’ authority to withhold funding, but that Evers would refrain from doing so.
It’s for the children…. Why would you want to steal from the children?
In all honesty though, when is something going to be done about MPS? We now have a generational illiteracy problem in the black community in Milwaukee, and a school system that is failing them. We spend 1.3 Billion Dollars on this massive bloated gravy train, that does nothing but overpay underskilled teachers, and administrators, to do a lackluster (understatement) job of teaching.
Seriously, MPS is now the second worse district in the country for reading….. Second worse in the country for what is arguably THE most important skill that a person can have.
Should have been worst in place of worse in that last paragraph… No A/C in the house, getting delusional.
Of course…Evers is another union sponsored blow hard. All talk no action
Now we know why the teacher’s union pushed so hard for him. Another do nothing admin - which is just what they want.
I don’t live in the district, but the failures of the MPS are affecting this entire region and must be addressed. How long are the citizenss going to allow this atrocity to continue? You all whine about the school board, school administrators, the teachers union, even the parents, but you do nothing to fix the problem. When are you going to grow a pair and take back your schools?
It’s time to clean house and vote out every politician with any level oversight responsibility for the MPS. At a minimum, make them accountable for thier failures by publicly exposing them. Put their names and faces on billboards if they continue to ignore you. Protest loudly at every MPS board meeting, scream racisim, do whatever you have to do to get some attention from the media.
This problem is fixable, but it’s going to take new blood to do it. You can’t honestly believe the people who got you into this mess will suddenly see the error of their ways. I honestly don’t understand how the citizens trapped in this failed system haven’t already revolted. You’re condeming an entire community to a life as second-class citizens.
Gee. A government department that doesn’t do even the most basic of functions. Let’s create another one to oversee the first one that failed to oversee what it was supposed to be overseeing. That’ll fix it.
