Doyle’s State of the State

Comments?

UPDATE: I admit… I literally fell asleep from about 7:15 until about 7:45 when I realized that I had to go get my daughter from practice.  I guess I’ll have to find it online somewhere.

  1. “we can and I will raise your taxes” thanks Jimma.

  2. Is it online somewhere? With a voice like his, he should issue it as a press release and keep his mouth shut.

  3. He’s not an inspirational speaker by any means.  He did have one joke telling the republicans they could have stood at one point since some of them (RINO’s) supported a bill.  Other than than I thought it fairly mundane.

  4. Some basic themes, predictable from diamond Jim (This one was tough to stay awake for, I’d listen to President Obama anyday over him)
    1.  I’ve mismanaged the entire state to an almost 6 billion dollar deficit, but it’s not my fault, it’s George Bush’s eight years of incompetence. Apparently I did not recognize or understand how to set policy to overcome his policies as I only just figured out they were bad last August.
    2.  Lie – “We took on the deficit without raising taxes.” ” We held hard limits on property taxes.” Fees aren’t taxes? What has been the average school levy increase from MPS the last two years?
    3.  Lie some more “cut state spending by an additional $270 million” Right, if by ‘cut’ you mean ‘increase’
    4.  Invoke President Obama as the messiah, “One of the major responsibilities we will have in the coming weeks and months is being swift and able partners in the recovery plan.” I get free money, I get free money, I get free money (special thanks to Dave ‘do as I say’ Obey)
    5.  Invoke platitudes like “crumbling schools” (like the one’s in West Bend). Really! Show me one Jim, I dare you.
    6.  Finally, read between the lines. I will not stop funding government. If you have a job get ready to pay, if you own a business get ready to pay. It’s time YOU made sacrifices, not the people that paid for my election.

  5. Definitely with ATV.  Do yourself a favor and just wait for a transcript.  It was hardly what DDS-sufferer tarz is trying to project onto it, but it was pretty blase and light on details.

Read it in 3 minutes or put it on for 30 minutes in the background while you do something else.

  6. I read the transcript. Long on attacks on Bush and short on everything else.

  7. If you analyze the budget the last six years as Cowles and Ellis have, plus many others you realize that this phony deficit, actually mush closer to 2-3 billion is not all the national economy but shows a slow degradation of our revenue base in this state.
When tommy took over he made getting jobs and business, more revenue, as a priority.  When Doyle and the dems have taken over they have made welfare their top priority.  That will last far longer than the Bush problems.
As we add more expenditures, drive out more entrepreneurs and wealthy people, watch the influx of needy. We will see declining life styles in this state.
Thank you Doyle, thank you dems and thank you GOP for not doing anything when you had the chance.
