Doyle Shuns Lawton

Ouch.

Gov. Jim Doyle found little to praise about his party’s only declared candidate for governor Wednesday.

Since the Democratic governor announced in August he wasn’t running for a third term, Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton - who has never been seen as close to Doyle - has been the only major candidate to declare she was running in their party’s primary.

Asked about Lawton’s accomplishments in her nearly seven years in office, Doyle said she had been “quite visible.”

“The lieutenant governor has worked hard on the arts and a number of other projects and she’ll put those credentials against whoever’s in the race,” said Doyle, who added he expected other Democrats to run.

  3. Lawton makes Doyle look like a conservative. You think taxes and fee are high now. If Lawton was elected they would double.

  4. Doyle isn’t completely out yet. I have read a few places that he is having second thoughts. You were warned.

  5. I have always thought he would run again if Obama didn’t put him up in Washington.  I figured the thought behind it is to point out to Democrats especially, that no one else has a chance against the higher profile Republican candidates.  A large part of any campaign is name recognition and both of the top Republicans have it over any Democrat besides Doyle.
