Doyle Dumps Money Into Liberal Attack Group

Interesting that he gave the money to an attack group instead of Barrett.  Perhaps even Doyle knows that his name is poisonous to the democratic candidate.

The Greater Wisconsin Committee’s Political Action Committee’s report filed this week indicates that account has since been depleted by more than half.

The Governor’s campaign committee made million dollar the donation in two $500,000 disbursements, dated August 2nd and August 18th.

  1. The reason why Doyle couldn’t give all that money to Barrett directly is because, at the direction of Doyle, the former State Elections Board ruled that no campaign committee could transfer more than somewhere less than $50,000 (don’t remember the exact amount, but $43K and change rings a bell) to another campaign committee.

Guess there’s either no limitation on a transfer from a campaign committee to a PAC or no desire on the part of the succeeding Government Accountability Board, who to a man owe their positions on the board to Doyle and their continued position to a potential Governor Barrett, to object to this.

  2. I’m so glad McCain-Feingold took the money and corruption out of campaigning. With Feingold in a tight battle, this point should be made in every article - that he’s directly responsible for most of this crap. Ironically enough, it’s also a result of his “reforms” that the self-financed candidates have become so common - because they’re totally unencumbered by the restrictions.

  3. And there’s nowhere for Doyle to hide on this one—it’s public record.

  4. It’s still a free country, Doyle can give this money to anyone or any organization he likes! I surmise that Republicans would never do this! As I recall involuntarily retired Senator Tom Reynolds gave his leftover $$ to an organization called “Clean Sweep” .  It was alot less $$ but it’s the principle. What’s the big deal?

  5. What’s the big deal?

No big deal for the already slimy uber-left Doyle.

The big deal would be that Tom Barrett howled about the unfairness of such campaign donations when he ran for Governor eight years ago. Suddenly we hear only silence. I guess Tom the Taxer really only stands for campaign finance reform for his opponents.

  6. Doyle cannot legally give that money to Barrett.  His campaign is limited by the maximum donation for a PAC, in the $45k range, and the PAC cap that Barrett cannot exceed, in the $400k range.  I am pretty sure Barrett PACed out earlier in the year.  These rules have been in place for almost 40 years.

  7. This is the new trend. Murdoch recently gave $1 million to a conservative group attacking gubernatorial candidates. Big money discovered there’s more impact in underwriting attack ads as opposed to giving it to the candidates themselves.
