Doyle Continues Cranberry Case

Doyle is continuing the ridiculous cranberry case.

The state will continue a lawsuit against a northern Wisconsin cranberry grower over the objections of the state Department of Justice, Gov. Jim Doyle said Friday.

Doyle, a Democrat, rejected the department’s request to end the politically charged pollution case and said the state would instead hire outside counsel to continue its appeal.

[...]

Doyle, whose office needs to sign off on civil actions initiated by the Department of Justice, rejected the agency’s advice, spokesman Matt Canter said.

“Whatever the merits of the case, the governor feels it’s important to complete the appeals process,” Canter said.

You have to love that phrase: “whatever the merits of the case.” Doyle is practically acknowledging that the case is worthless, but that the taxpayers should pay an outside council thousands of dollars just to go through the motions of an appeal.  Heck, what’s a few thousand more dollars of the taxpayers’ money?  It’s not like it’s Doyle’s money.

  2. Thousands? I want what you are smoking Owen.  smile Any ‘outside council’ that is handling a state case (especially for doyle) is sure to run us into the hundreds of thousands. Why would they take the case otherwise?
