Gov. Jim Doyle on Thursday appointed West Bend attorney James Pouros and Washington County District Attorney Todd Martens to circuit judge vacancies.
Pouros and Martens will fill vacancies left by Patrick Faragher and David Resheske, who announced their retirements in May.
I like Martens. I don’t think he’s the most conservative of people, but my interactions with him on an official capacity have always been good.
Both are good men. Interesting - in the past Doyle has stuck it to us via appointments. Maybe he has mellowed with lame duckness. So, fine.

Umm, living a secret life, Owen?
I think appointments are wrong and that special elections should be held.
What was DA Martens relationship with Doyle when he was Attorney General? In Addition, who knows anything about Attorney Pouros?
The people should know more about them.
There is presently a pending appointment for the retiring Judge Langhoff in Sheboygan County. Informed sources say it will be Angela Sutkiewicz, the secretary of the county Democrat Party.
I tend to agree with the special election method of selection, as opposed to sheer political patronage appointment.

Todd Martens was elected DA 5 times as a Republican.
I remember James Pouros being one of the first to endorse Glenn Grothman (Republican).
Besides numerous campaign donations to Glenn Grothman over the years dating back to 1997, he has donated to JB Van Hollen (R), Annette Ziegler (R?), Leah Vukmir (R), Vince Biskopic, Ted Kanavas, Mary Panzer(R), Michael Lehman (R), and Pat Strachota (R). Don’t know the party affiliations of all of the above, but I do know that most of them are Republicans, if not all.
I had heard that Doyle would probably appoint one of the candidates who is a woman (I’m not sure which one) and/or Waring Finke who I think it associated with Democrat party in Washington County.
Go figure that!
Went back into the campaign database and found that Waring Fincke donated to Shirley Abrahamson, Louis Butler, Linda Clifford, Ed Brunner, Peg Lautenschlager, Kimberly Plache, Kathleen Falk, Ed Garevy, Lynn Adelman,
Belling let the cat out of the bag by broadcasting that Attorney Pouros was one of the library board members that wanted the gay porn in the children’s section.
Talk about liberal nose thumbing at the people in the community.
@Ofr: Imagine that! ![]()
GAMazy -
I read once that a Patriot was considered a person that helps protect their counrty from the goverment. I guess I would consider Belling a Patriot and whoever provided him the information.
Thanks
It’s been a long time for me to study history, but was it Adams, Jefferson or (?) that said if you had to leave the public out of any branch of goverment it should not be the judicial branch.

Maybe Mark Belling follows this blog:

That was posted here 4/22/09.
Or maybe Mark Belling reads the newspaper that provided the text for the post. He does write a weekly column for that same paper.
