This is a good idea.
In his state of the state speech Tuesday, Gov. Jim Doyle will propose a statewide expansion of Wisconsin’s Family Care program, which provides long-term, community-based services to low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
Under current senior care programs, old folks have to be put into a nursing home to receive taxpayer help. The Family Care program moves old folks out of nursing homes back to their homes. It is less expensive, more comfortable for most old folks, and allows them to retain the dignity that many of them have earned. It’s time to stop warehousing our old folks.
