Deserted Island Music

I was watching High Fidelity (an excellent movie, BTW) last night, and it got me thinking about an excellent little exercise.

You’re going to be stranded on a deserted island for the rest of your life.  You’re beach pad has electricity and a kick-ass stereo.  (I know, just work with me here)

You can take only three songs with you.  What are they?  You can only name three.  No more, no less, no ties.

In no particular order, mine are:

Stairway to Heaven, by Led Zeppelin
Comfortably Numb, by Pink Floyd
and to mix it up a little…
Southern Cross, by Crosby, Stills, & Nash

You can take only three albums with you.  Double albums allowed, but no greatest hits compilations, boxed sets, etc.

The Wall, by Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon, by Pink Floyd
and to mix it up a little…
Welcome to the Black Parade, by My Chemical Romance

You can take the collected works of three artists.  Every song in the discography.

• Pink Floyd
• Led Zeppelin
and to mix it up a little…
• ELO

  12. Hmmm,

How do classical pieces fit in? Do I translate song to movement? Or does song translate to work? How about album? I am okay with catalogs. Rule and I will answer.

I know I’m not very consistent when it comes to music because there are so many choices. It took me three days to finally buy some Madonna Tickets and on the day of the concert I swapped them for tickets to a local band because I had the impression they sounded a bit like the White Stripes. When I got to this concert I sold my tickets and bought myself two beers and enjoyed them listening to my phone’s headset. I had some Vivaldi and Radiohead…
