Day in the Dells

I spent the day at Mount Olympus Water and Theme Park in Wisconsin Dells today chaperoning a school trip.  It was a blast.  It was in the 50s and either rained lightly or drizzled most of the day.  Unfortunately, the weather closed many of the outside rides, but the good news is that there were NO lines.  All of the coasters and two of the go-cart tracks were open.  We could literally ride them time and time again without waiting a minute.  It was great and everyone had a wonderful time.

In any case, after a full day of screaming teenagers and miles of walking, I’m back home and tuckered out.  It’s a good tuckered out, though.

  1. That was you?  I’m in the Dells at Kalahari (water park is INDOORS).  We drove by Mt. Olympus today and saw some folks outside and said “those folks are NUTS!”

So, is that water heated, at least?  I can’t imagine how cold the day was for you if the pools weren’t heated.

  2. The indoor water park was heated.  Nobody attempted the outdoor water rides, but the outdoor them park rides were a blast.

  3. I love days like that at the Dells.  Our favorite is usually the 1st or 2nd of July, just before the big holiday rush…  Noah’s Ark is usually pretty empty, but the weather is nicer.  Of course, it’s a mixed blessing, because walking from the bottom of the Point of No Return to the top without stopping is KILLER.

  4. I did see some people in the outdoor pools.  They looked cold.  I guess they figured that, if they were going to pay $200 a night to stay there, they were going to get their money’s worth.  Glad to hear you stayed inside!

Jason—you’re right.  I think that, the current weather notwithstanding, this is the time of year to come.  No lines for anything—just walk right up.  Nice!

  5. Autumn is a great time to go too, even if some things are closed for the season. The lack of crowds makes up for it.

Owen, too bad you couldn’t go to House of Embers for dinner. It’s great!
