From Jim Geldreich.
Sunday for the Wisconsin delegation began with a trip to Avila Country Club in Tampa for a very nice brunch buffet. Speakers included RNC Committeewoman Mary Beustrin and RPW Chairman Brad Courtney. The highlight of the event was a speech by Governor Walker where he thanked all of us for our work on the recall election, as well as enlisting all of us to work relentlessly for the Romney/Ryan ticket.
Late this afternoon, the Wisconsin delegates were taken over to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg for the all delegations Welcome Event. Tropicana Field is a domed baseball stadium and we were given the entire field. Thousands of delegates from all fifty states were treated to seafood, Cuban fare and paella. Several stages featured all sorts of entertainment from cirque du soleil, to dance and musical acts, culminating with a show from country singer Rodney Atkins.
Monday the convention will convene briefly, then it will be immediately suspended to Tuesday due to the incoming hurricane which is due to brush the Tampa area late Monday.
Sounds like a nice time, but then I remember that my taxdollars are paying for it.
Do tax dollars pay for any of the conventions?
I was under the impression that these were put on solely by the political parties. I suppose that there are some security concerns that are probably picked up.
