U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge apologized today for actions caught on video recently by two young men who caught up with him outside a Washington fundraiser.
The video shows Etheridge, D-N.C., grabbing the wrist of one of the men, and then by the nape of the neck, while repeatedly asking, “Who are you?”
“I have seen the video posted on several blogs. I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction and I apologize to all involved,” Etheridge said in a prepared statement.
But then there’s this…
He said the incident happened on a street in Washington after a long day.
He was asked if he apologized to the men with cameras.
“I don’t know who they are,” Etheridge said. “I would. If I knew who they were.”
So, basically, he still wants to know who they are before commenting. So much for the apology.
LOL - say goodbye buddy. This video will be running the entire month of October on ads in your district.
Can’t answer a simple question.
I am actually ok with this guy and his action. I do not think it is unreasonable to ask the name of the people demanding you answer questions and who they are affiliated with.
Did he handle it the absolutely best way possible? No but I think everyone is entitled to an off moment. And again, how hard is it for these guys to simply state who they are?
Asking for a name is one thing, clutching someone’s wrist and then grabbing them from behind the head with some type of Vulcan neck pinch is another.
Bottom line, the ONLY reason this ass bag apologized is because about 4 million people bore witness to his ass baggery.
The guy should be arrested for assult.
“So, basically, he still wants to know who they are before commenting.”
Fair enough paranoia, er, verification, in these times.
Assume every cell phone is a camera and every phone call and Internet episode subject to the scrutiny of the Patriot Act, ...and every spoken word, photo and video can be edited by unknowns for ulterior motives.
Why does he have to apologize? Did they identify themselves first with solid IDs? These days, how many celebrity, business and political folk get instantly interviewed by the like of TMZ, Michael Moore and Bill O’Reilly?
sarcasm: Maybe this is why Washington D.C. does not allow concealed carry?
In this day of faux journalism i.e., James O’Keefe, I wouldn’t blame any politician, right or left, for wanting to deal with that sort of scum in a hostile manner. The two snot nose kids should have been more professional instead of attempting to setup an ambush.
Didn’t Mike Wallace his name in the news biz by doing “ambush interviews”? All that these kids did was take a page from the liberal news media playbook. Why are the libs bothered by that?
The guy was perfectly within his rights to say “no comment” or keep walking. Once he committed assault he went over the line.
Just thinking back to my days in college, (which took place after I served in the military), had the creep grabbed my arm or tried to get ahold of my neck like he did to the kid in the video, he would have found himself looking up from the pavement with a broken nose asking, “What hit me,” instead of “Who are you?”
I’m with ya Duke…..Just glad that didn’t happen though. This guy would be held up as a Hero and the kids would be under arrest.
Thanks for posting this Owen - it’s a Rorschach test. Too bad we don’t have an “ignore list” because the hacks defending this guy’s bullying and assault on a kid who did nothing more than ask a question…well it’s clear they’re so in the bag for their party that they’re incapable of objectivity and not worth the time.
If Paul Ryan did this - the same apologizers for this bozo would be at the front of the lynch mob, screaming for his resignation.
Having an “off moment” is flipping them the bird and walking - not grabbing their wrist and neck and not letting go. These guys get questioned all the time by the press - (which is funny that the press never asks that question - but that’s another story) - how tough is it to just keep walking??
Calling the president a liar when he is lying… an atrocity of biblical proportions.
Assaulting some poor college kid with a camera because he doesn’t agree with you… heroic defense of American values.
“I don’t know who they are,” Etheridge said. “I would. If I knew who they were.”
So, basically, he still wants to know who they are before commenting. So much for the apology.
No. He’s saying he can’t apologize to them personally if he doesn’t know who they are. It’s really that easy.
