Waukesha West placed third overall in the national Academic Decathlon competition that just concluded in Hawaii. West finished first in the medium size school category.
With a big financial and moral support from Messmer.
But they got to go to Hawai-i!
Hawai-i!
Think they care if they won or not?
Afterall they were in Hawai-i
If my Academic Decathlon experience was similar those kids didn’t see anything of Hawaii outside the walls of their hotel rooms. It’s all about cramming, cramming, cramming, and making sure you get a little sleep before the tests.
I want to know how big the winning school was if Waukesha West was “medium size.”
Gotta agree with Dan and Sean here.
This was a great story of community and commeroderie which is not shouted from the rooftops as it should be.
Academic Decathalon never gets the coverage it deserves especially when I was helping Slinger almost win the state title. ![]()
I am outraged. Am I to gather that a “Religious School” was involved with something with a public school? Where is the separation of Church and State? I demand answers! This cannot ever happen again! I see if the religious zealots “Give money, time and support” then everyone is quiet on the subject. This should not have happened… I think that every penny should be given back. Immediately.
However, since I dragged my feet, on this whole thing. I am so glad that WI had representation at this event and I am Happy that a “Religious School” was able to help the poor underprivileged children of the outer city.
OK, enough, I will be serious. These are major events, these kids need to commended, and again it just goes to show how children can be the example for the “adults” Way to GO Messmer and Waukesha West.
No, you’re wrong. West didn’t cram, we saw them around all the time. They actually commented how they didn’t think cramming like the other schools would help that much. Maybe it cost them a victory though.
