It’s not often that I agree with a Cap Times editorial.
Senate Republican leaders argued for delaying the reconfirmation vote, at least until a hearing could be held on the nomination.
At such a hearing, argued Senate Minority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, Busalacchi could be questioned under oath about the Troha case and related matters. With appropriate responses, perhaps the cloud could have dissipated.
But Senate Democrats refused to do the right thing - for Busalacchi and Wisconsin.
Instead, they rushed forward with a confirmation vote.
The Senate agreed to reconfirm Busalacchi, with only six senators - Fitzgerald and five other Republicans, including Neenah’s Mike Ellis, the conscience of the chamber - voting “no.”
While we do not often side with Fitzgerald, the minority leader was exactly right when he said after Busalacchi was reconfirmed: “This vote should not have taken place today. With an ongoing FBI investigation into possible special treatment a major donor to Governor Doyle’s campaign may have received from the department, the proper course of action was to return the nomination to committee for a public hearing. This would have allowed senators and the public to get answers to important questions that have been raised by the media. Instead, Senate Democrats refused to open this process to the public and insisted on a final vote today.”
There is still a cloud over the state Department of Transportation.
There is still a cloud over Busalacchi.
But now there is also a cloud over the state Senate.
But does this surprise anyone about the Dems. The vote never should have happened. And isn’t this the same DOT that Diamond Jim “Doing Time” Doyle sees as his personal slush fund so he can dole out money to WEAC for their government schools. Of course they Democraps) don’t want anything to happen to their guys.
dole out money to WEAC for their government schools
So keenor which private choice school did you go to that didn’t get money from the state just like the “government schools”.
I really like the sound of “government schools” it sounds so egalitarian, so Maoist.
Oh and yes it is the same DOT that Doyle, Thompson and quite a few State Legislators, both Republican and Democrat, have used as a campaign fund raising tool with the Road Builders for years.
WAXMAN: Federal regulations require that any person who has knowlege of the loss or compromise of classified information has an obligation to report to the the White House Security Officer…Are you aware if there has been any investigation that ever took place in the White House about the release of this classified information?
[James] KNODELL [Director of the White House Office of Security]: I am not. [...] I don’t have any knowledge of an investigation within my office.
WAXMAN: Because the President said he was investigating this matter, was going to get to the bottom of it. You’re not familiar that any, you’re not aware that any investigation took place?
KNODELL: Not within my office, sir.
